Does a BMW K100's tail light ever go out when the ignition is on?

This may sound like a silly question but I've only just got this bike and i've been giving it a good clean up and sorting out after it's been sat in a garage for 4 years. I've only just turned it on and started it. Aside from a split fuel line that was quickly fixed the only problem seems to be that the tail light will not turn off while the ignition is switched on! Is this a safety feature of the K series or do I have an electrical fault (bloomin' mice!)

Note: The triangular warning light that gets triggered by faults in the circuitry DOES turn off but i still think it's odd that the tail light does not...

On a US model the taillight and headlight should be on any time the ignition is on. . If you have a European model it is possible to turn the headlight switch off with a switch on the handlebar. Not sure if this turns the taillight off also.

Yes, the European version can turn off the tailight along with the headlight.

They are just like your car--if the headlight (or just parking light) is on, the taillight is on. Nothing has separate switching for front and rear lights.
