Exhaust Smoke

I have a 1985 K100 RT (have had it 3 years and have put on over 30,000 miles no other problems) and recently (2500 miles ago) instead of using a BMW brand oil filter, I used a HiFlo filter (part 14-0163, oil used Castrol, 10W-40 and I change oil and filter every 3,000 miles). Now at time of start up the bike is smoking more than when I was using a BMW filter. Fortunately, after a few minutes the smoke goes away. Has anyone else had this problem with a HiFlo filter and what can be done to reduce startup exhaust smoke (when I use my side I put a block under stand arm). I have heard that a BMW filter has a check valve to prevent this is this true? Advice would be appreciated.

Re: Exhaust Smoke

That's pretty common for the flying brick motor if left on the side stand. Have you always used the center stand?

Re: Exhaust Smoke

OEM filters, if they are too expensive for you mail order them.

I change your tires $50, you buy them on the web.
