swapping brakes from an 03 gt/rs to a 96 KRS

Hello all. This is my first post so bare w/ me. I ride a 96 K1100RS that I feel is a perfect balance but after owning a 03 GT I wish it had the gt's brakes! So I'm appealing to all you wrenches out there for some thoughts. What would it take to say buy a wrecked rs/gt from the 98/04 era and swap the brake system on to my 96. Calipers, abs wheel rings, abs pump/brain. Hoping the brakes have there own brain box vs being tied into the fuel injection and spark computer. Ok, appreciate any ideas or knowledge you may have on this thought. Thanks! Tim

Sounds like a near impossible project. The 03 KRS/GT has the Servo Assisted linked ABS system. Getting all of that hardware that goes along with that system on the 1100 doesn't sound feasible. Have you seen the Hydro Unit on the newer bike? Where would ya put it?

I would look into upgrading the rotors and pads. Much easier project

Thanks Ted. That was my main thought as to how much larger that was vs. the stocker. The center of my bike only houses my abs system and the battery. I need to check out my friends GT and evaluate the whole idea. He lives a ways away so that may be a few days.

Why not just buy a 1998-2001 KRS? They can be had pretty cheap right now...

I had an 03 GT and didn't like it. Put 13k on it the year I owned it and never really fell in love w/ it. Big heavy, not as good of wind protection, much more to insure. I did like the cruise and brakes on it. My RS has 96K on it and still my favorite bike plus its the black and silver special edition. Beautiful! Ok, in my eyes anyway~)
