Very nice job. What is the name of that color? Is it a BMW color? How long did it take you? Lessons learned? (Wondering if I would tackle such a challenge. )

2011 R1200RT - not named yet

2005 K1200LT Blue - "Sapphire" - gone

The color is a Chrystler color, Code: PRH , Inferno red crystal pearl metallic. It's color fast and fade resistant unlike the original BMW code 675 Brilliant Rot color. The paint used was valspar, DTM epoxy primer, Series 999 base coat and 4400 High solids clear.

I haven't painted in about 16 years and the HVLP guns took a little getting used too. I have only painted 2 other bikes in my life, so I'm not a professional painter.

Lessons learned?

Take your time!
Pratice with some cheap paint first and careful prep work.
Make sure you have a good compressor.

I completed all this in a 2 car garage. Anyone should be able to do this.

Congrats Did a great job....I would love to do that to my LT. I want to paint it Harley Black Cherry(they use on their 1st yr. Street Glide) with Gold ghost flames.
Was it expensive to do?

Great Job!

My goodness did you ever do one heck of a fine job.
That thing looks great.
How much time did it take you to get from the first pic to the finished pic?

I would recommend that you put some of that plastic protective film on the lower fairing to protect that beautiful paint job. I had a custom bra made for my K1100RS which worked fantastic.

Or take it to Line-X and have them put a stripe of truck bed liner down the center of the belly pan. Should cost <$50. I had the entire belly pan done on my K1100RS but a stripe/band down the center is all that's really needed. (I also did the knee pads, mirrors, gas cap, tail cowl handles and luggage.)

Put SilK Blue on that K11 and that could easily be my bike parked there. I have stopped at that overlook many times since 1990. My bra was made out black vinyl with a cloth backing and it looked sweeeet.
