k1100lt 1993 ,info wanted please

hi,i'v recently purchased a k1100lt,(done about 47,ooo miles.its smooth changing up gears but its clunking when i change down gears..very occasionally difficult to get into 1st,easier when i double clutch..is it normal for a bike of this age to be clunking?..do i need to adjust the clutch,will that sort it? any ideas will be gratefully appreciated...thanking thee

I do recall my 87 K100 clunked into gear. Synth oil helped.

You might want to consider getting the clutch/tranny splines lubed. This seems to be a condition of dry splines.

Yeah -- go to synthetics in the gear box and don't forget to have the clutch cable adjusted / lubed and or do it yourself -- if it hasn't been done, it's due.

Lube the ends ofthe clutch cable but do not put anything in it. BMW cables have a Teflon-ish lining which will degrade if you put any lube in there.
