New to BMWs, but not to bikes

What's up fellow "flying brick" owners. Just joined and just purchased a 94 K1100LT. Been looking for BMWs for while and scored this one from a dealer who obviously has some shotty mechanics for $200 running and riding. Before you say I scored a super deal, the forks are leaking, the fuel gauge doesn't work, needs a new rear tire, usual cosmetic blemishes and what they describe as a knock at high RPM (sounds more like a ping to me, but I may not have warmed it up enough). At 172,000 miles, if it's anything too major, I'm buying a second hand motor on ebay, reconditioning it, and just going that route. Looking forward to learning from all the wealth of knowledge here and possibly imparting some of my own tips and tricks. I'm a regular over at Intruder Alert(IA), mostly just on the tech side, as I also own an 87 VS700. Picking it up Saturday, and ready to give her a good tune up and get wrenching.

Hi and welcome to the nut house
Sounds like you will enjoy wrenching on your K1100LT.
Best way to enjoy the ride.
Loads of advice here and the folks are more than helpful.
I know Slammer from Malta can share some wisdom from his "Iron Pig"
Cheers
