Original '83 K100 fuel cap.

Greetings people.

I'm wanting to respray the original fuel cap from my '83 K100. Remember them? They had the lock barrel in a small "push down to open" section of the cap? They leaked water whenever they were opened. I'm almost finished a complete rebuild and respray and would like to repaint the original fuel cap too. My question is does anyone know how to remove the lock from the push down section of the cap? If it's too hard, I'll just blank it off and get the painter to go easy around it.

Cheers and kindest regards as always.
