Rides Anyone

Can't complain about the California weather (unless you want to water your plants), we are gaining light every day, wind does not seem to be a factor, so let us ride.

I have a few rides I want to do.
... Placerville, Rock Creek Rd, Mosquito Rd, and a variety of connecting roads.
... Alice's Restaurant, San Gregorio, Pescadero, Tunitas Creek Rd, connecting roads, and ?
... Tehachapi Loop. This would be a multiple day ride.
... Day rides in the Sierra.
... Badwater/Death Valley. This would be a multiple day ride.
... Carrizo Plain/Central California. Free camping available.
... Parkfield Grade/Parkfield Cafe for lunch.
... Old Coast Road/Big Sur but not alone or wet.
... Monitor Pass/Markleeville variable route http://goo.gl/maps/F25KI
... Hwy 32, Lake Almanor, ?
... Zen House/Point Arena
... ???
Where do you want to ride?

Tim, good idea(s). My two favorite right now would be the underlined above. However, I am very flexible. I would also like to get out the skinny bikes and explore the sierras- could trailer closer then ride. No camping though 'til spring. Again, want to get out and ride. Will go with the directional flow!!!

Re: Rides Anyone

Who has ridden Coalinga Road? This map started out to show Coalinga Road.

http://goo.gl/maps/Ii93k I like Coalinga Road for its narrow twisty rough condition with little traffic. This route can be ridden in a day but us Sacto riders might see some darkness.

Any route can be changed.

Tim, right now day rides, and they can be long, will work best for me. Pick a route and then let's float some dates. Having never been to Big Sur, something that way is sorta appealing. Really, though, I haven't been to most places you have stored in memory!

I am going dirt bike riding on a camping weekend of the 8th in Stonyford starting Thursday nite going home sunday. I love the violence and physical challenges of riding trails. Camping is pretty cool too- especially in the motorhome when it is cold!!

Here is a nose-bleed one day Big Sur ride. Actually I prefer to ride the opposite direction (north) on Big Sur. The beginning and end of this trip is on Freeway so darkness is not a big deal. I really want to ride Old Coast Road. Just need dry weather.

The Hwy 25, 198, Coalinga, Valley, ride should be fun and doable. This is probably more fun than the Big Sur ride.

You find the time and I am sure we can get 4,5,6 guys to do these rides.

Gotta keep working on the barn/shop project while I still have my helper available.
Now that exterior is done, on to interior electrical, insulation, sheetrock and paint so I can move all my stuff back inside.
DV weather looks good 70/40 - 0 chance of rain.

There's a shortcut (not) to the Charcoal Kilns near Panamint.
Wildrose Rd, up Charcoal Kiln Rd and then north out on Imigrant Canyon Rd.

This route will be more fun, about the same mileage, and include the Ranch House Cafe. Many opportunities for gasoline. If you haven't ridden 178 to Isabella Lake you will be glad you did.

I think Tim is still recovering from his cold and going to pass on this trip.

Meet up at the Chevron at Hwy99/Jacktone Rd (Ripon) at 8:00
Several places for breakfast.
On the road by 8:30 and arrive Furnace Creek by 5:30 via Hwy 178 with 1/2 hour lunch break.

Could just get a cabin or motel room for 1st night, then arrival after dark no big deal and could leave Ripon later.
Move to campground next day.
Have fun.

That is where we are meeting, and at 8 AM so I dunno if you spoke to Bob, or it is just a coincidence.

Good idea the cabin thing, if it is dark, we might just do that.

Bike is loaded, out at 7AM.

Yay!

Re: Rides Anyone

I was going to ride with the group though make a two day trip http://goo.gl/maps/4GaWz . Was going to stay in Bishop the first night and enjoy the ride home on Wednesday. I would get home in time for the movie on Wednesday. But thought better of it and decided to get rid of this seemingly never ending cold.

Enjoy the trip and look for the seven star events this week.

While we're sitting under a thick blanket of white snow, my wife and I are planning a ride for spring/summer that starts here in Wisconsin, heads west through South Dakota to see the badlands/Mt. Rushmore, then turn south into Colorado over Estes park to visit a friend in Granby, then south through the San Juans, eventually to route 66 in New Mexixo following that to Chicago, then back to central Wisconsin. If I get it on a map I'll post it and maybe some of you live on the route or nearby and we can meet for lunch or something.

Snow???
We can't even get a sprinkle of rain !

You route is a bit far from Nor Cal (which is where you posted).
When you get route set, go to Regions Forum and post in the areas along your route.

When you decide to visit Nor Cal, give us a shout.
