2009 front wheel for LT?

Hi gang (or should I say posse?),

Do any of you have a front wheel taking up space in your garage? Want to sell it?

I hit a pothole and bent mine! It's operable but probably not as safe as I'd like.

I've heard rumors that wheels can be un-bent. Anyone have any experience with that or recommendations?

Not sure what the protocol is here for this kind of post so PM me if you're interested.

Cheers!

Bob

Hi Bob;
I have a used wheel that's supposed to fit my 02.
Been sitting on shelf for years, not perfect and needs major clean up.
Check part numbers and see if it fits?

I think there's a place in Sac that straightens wheels, surely there's a shop in the Bay Area?????

Any front wheel from a 2002 & up will fit. 1999 to 2001 front wheels have different offset for the brake rotors.

Re: 2009 front wheel for LT?

Bob, I had a similar accident a few years back on my 05 and my wheel was damaged enough that the tire went flat and I had the bike flat-bedded home.
I went to a place specializing in wheel repairs and learned that a bent rim can be repaired, but a warped rim cannot. Of course mine was warped... You may have better luck and get yours fixed for $100-120.
I bought a used one from Tony (Deputy5211) and still use it.

Thanks Dave. Based on the little research I did before looking for a replacement I found that the original LT front wheel is different from the later models due to a change to the linked ABS design. The part number I need is 36 31 7 658 469. Is the part number stamped on the wheel somewhere? Since Doug's is from an 02 model and we all know that BMW didn't make all modifications exactly to the model year, I want to insure Doug's wheel will fit my '09 bike!

Thanks everyone for the wisdom...

Cheers!

Just looked at my '09 front
The only numbers on it were on the brake side on the spokes and none of them match your part number but here goes if they mean anything: on 1 spoke HL 2052 2
another spoke 2 335 868
and yet another which I did not write exactly but I guess 17 is the rim size and something like a month/date box. There is nothing on the rim itself other than the weight balance.

I don't know of any way to identify the rim by the numbers on the rim.

My "extra" rim and the rim on my 02 have the following numbers cast into the spokes;
2 335 868
HL 2052 1a
MTH2 3.50 x 17 E

If interested, ride on over and we will see if it mounts up.

Thank Bill! My wheel has an HL2052 2 on it as well.

I think the fact that Doug's has an HL2052 1a on it indicative that it's an earlier version.

Anyone else have a later version spare front wheel?

Cheers!

Thanks for checking Doug but I don't think that one will work...

That's not to say I won't just ride on over to say hi!. Any excuse for a ride...

The numbers on my 2004 are 2335888 HL 2052 1a

The numbers on my 2000 are 2335667 HW 2042 1c

I have another 2000 rim that has my studded tires on it that I could pull down tomorrow & look.

The rotors on my 2004 measure 4.920" from the outside of the rotor to the inside of the other. On my 2000 they measure 4.800". Or roughly about a 1/16 of an inch per side difference.

Hmmm...
So an '02 and an '04 both have HL 2052 1a numbers. What year was it they changed the brakes? I thought it was '02 but maybe that was the K1200S... I just can't keep up anymore!

Once again a question above my pay grade.
3 years is rather new to BMW ownership. Question: is it the rim size that matters or the rotor to match the brake system/calipers.
What is the 1a, 1c, telling us? Are the spokes different spec-wise not cosmetic?
Hope you get the match.

Keep in mind that these are just casting numbers & not the machined numbers. 2001 was the last year for the non linked brakes.

Well do we have a match.
Are the wheels interchangeable. And specifically what years.
