Needing tools and knowledge .... Rear main leak

Dammit !! .... engine oil on garage floor coming from between engine and tranny.
Clutch not slipping yet, but we all know that's inevitable !

No way I can afford taking bike to A&S for this extensive of work right now.

We have any Nor Cal ( Sacramento Area) guys working from home Savvy enough to do this type service ?

Thanks,
Scott

If you need the special socket, send me your address and I'll send it to you.

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying " I'll try again tomorrow".

Scott;
I have the 30mm cut out socket and the 12mm allen and the 14mm female allen socket, all will be needed to do the job.

I have a lift you could borrow as well.

I personally have not torn that far into an LT.
Maybe someone with previous experience will jump in and volunteer to help.

Re: Needing tools and knowledge .... Rear main leak

Hey Scott.... I live 3 miles up Ponderosa Road, and yes; I've done this. If I can, I know you can. Between Hoss and I, (and Doug) we have all the tools. I too have a lift.

Give me a call, and we can set something up. I ordered my parts from Bentonville BMW. Parts list attached (should be the same for you, mine's an '01). I went ahead and replaced the clutch slave since I had her apart.

Also, here is a GREAT step-by-step guide put together by Kenny and Channing.

Re: Needing tools and knowledge .... Rear main leak

The absolute best thing about this site, hands down.... Friends volunteering your services... That said, we've (Brian and I) have done 3 main seals, several clutches and a few other odds and ends here and there...

For a small donation (Beer and beans) I know I can speak for Hallzee when I say: NAME THE DATE AND TIME, WE'LL BE THERE.... My only requirement is a lift... Tools are readily available. (All of them at my house)...

Afterwards however an additional payment from you will need to me made. We both accept Visa, Mastercard and AMEX. Seeing as you're self employed, We will (for a limited time) take a guided tour through the logging/back roads of the Sierra Nevada's again, as payment in full!...

Sounds like plan in the making !!
Called for parts Sat and got put off placing until Tuesday ... So for a spell in a holding pattern until parts are IN HAND.

So ... with lifts available, is this something I go fetch bring back to MY shop & tools for use ? .. or take bike to the lift & brink my tools ?

What ever is easier...

I have it all (Lift curiosity of Mr. Crum)

Brian has some...

Not sure where you are sourcing your parts, but I found the best Stealer prices were from the Arkansas dealer when I did mine... Don't order the actual seal, I have it. Barbara was due when she was totaled...

Do you have a scissor jack? Holds ass-end up when bike is stripped. You can also hang it from the rafters...

Re: Needing tools and knowledge .... Rear main leak

Ok here is my plan ... all those wishing to make it welcome.
(PM for address & directions)

Being bikes still sitting virgin untouched ... need 1/2 day to strip down to the harder stuff, just could not manage to enthuse myself last weekend to P-U a wrench and start.

Think this weekend going to tackle the preliminary stuff myself and likely shoot for Sun18th for gettin serious with the groups help from those available.

BBQ lunch and beer etc .... lets communicate and make it a date
