Pasadena to Shasta and Back This Weekend

I am leaving from Pasadena, CA this coming Friday mid day for a ride in appointment for Monday at Russell Day Long in Shasta, CA. I plan on spending the night in Bishop. Then on Saturday riding into Shasta via Lake Tahoe, Lassen N.P., etc. On Sunday I have a couple of routes planned for the area. I am not sure which I will do just yet as there are so many possibilities. I am attaching my route out of Bishop and the possible routes on Sunday.

I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas/places to ride.

Also, I assume it is going to be chilly in the evenings and the mornings?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Pasadena to Shasta and Back This Weekend

Rode up 395 last Sunday from Death Valley and it was a nice ride.
Your Saturday route is a good one but a long one (450+) miles.
Slow going over Monitor Pass, around Lake Tahoe and over Lassen NP may require stopping before Redding. Maybe consider overnight in Quincy and do Lassen Sunday morning?
60 miles north of Bishop I like to take the June Lake Loop.
Came over Monitor Last Sunday and it's in great shape.
Was over Lassen 6 weeks ago and also on good condition, visitors center closes at 6:00pm.
Watch for wildlife and stop early.
Enjoy your ride.

Thanks so much for the advice. Yeah Saturday could be a bit too much, especially if there is still snow on some of the roads. I still have to check the Caltrans site before I head off.
It is easy for me to ride that distance in one day, but I don't like riding at night so I may take your advice and break it up.

Where is the "Monitor Pass" you refer to?

Thanks again.

Re: Pasadena to Shasta and Back This Weekend

Monitor Pass is Hwy 89, the turnoff is 130 miles north of Bishop off 395.
Appears to be on your route. just follow 89 around Tahoe.

Re: Pasadena to Shasta and Back This Weekend

Thanks for your input.

I rode 1737 miles, saw some great scenery and was reminded how much I love riding and this great country.

The bike had sat for 2 years on a battery tender after my big ride to Alaska. When I got back from that ride I had the bike serviced so that it would be ready to ride when the opportunity arose. I didn't think it would be 2 years, but it was and the bike was flawless! You never would have known that it had just been sitting that long.

The weather was flawless. Pretty cold out of Lee Vining and into Shasta on Saturday. Sunday's ride was beautiful. I did the 299/36/101/299 loop. Fantastic roads and again beautiful scenery.

Monday I took the seat into Russell Day Long and they adjusted it for me just like it needed - problem solved (I was sliding forward on decel and braking). Only problem was that it rained until I reached about 60 miles south of Sacramento. I'm glad that I always pack the rain gear no matter where or when I am going on a ride.

I lost my spot gps tracker on the 5 Freeway - only casualty of the trip.

Thanks again. I'm attaching one of my favorite pix from the ride.
