Iron Mountain Ghost Resort

While riding on the Mormon Emigrant Trail yesterday I came upon this ski resort that has been closed since '95. After a quick search, I found several pictures of snowmobilers pictures of it in the winter but not summer. And information about its demise through several ownerships to bankruptcy

It did feel a little creepy around there. I kept expecting to see a figure in a doorway or window frame. I was sad too. There must have been some good times there. For some reason, I stayed away from the indoors. It was just a quick stop in a 375 mile day.

What a shame. Wonder how much money was lost on that deal.

Jess and I walked through the whole place about 3 years ago. Very creepy feeling we were being watched. We did some photography of most the area and then got out of there. There were still a ton of rental skis and boots in the rental shop when we were there.

Wow, the roof collapsed this Winter. It was still in "good" shape last Fall. Another good snow pack could take the whole thing down.

Re: Iron Mountain Ghost Resort

So sad. I learned to ski there. It was a neat little place to ski and not too far from the cabin I used to have in West Point. I guess the short lift lines that drew me there also drove in under.

Looks like a great spot for Burning Man - South. The zip lines are already installed!

Re: Iron Mountain Ghost Resort

Abandoned ski areas are facinating.
Law suits resulting in huge liability insurance costs drove many areas out of business.
Sad, the small areas are largely gone.

Here's a neat site, Lost Ski Areas of New England, with links to other regions.
