Talking Force Schmorce, I got a new bike

I picked up this little jewel today; 2010 R1200RT in Polar Metallic, or a kind of ice blue/gray if you don't like the marketing names -

I posted some further info in this thread regarding the problem with my GT, if you're interested.

Time for some break-in miles!

Nice David, congrats!

It was good to read that BMW NA and San Jose BMW were supportive in resolving the problem with your GT.

Pretty. But it would be a whole lot prettier going down the road next to my Concours. We need to fix that!

Congrats boy!

Thanks, guys. Gilles, I promise to have it dirty by next weekend. I agree, it's a little scary when they are that pristine.

Re: Force Schmorce, I got a new bike

Went out and did 200 break-in miles on the new RT today. Gorgeous day to be riding on the coast! Road Metcalf, Uvas Canyon, Hecker Pass, Elkhorn Slough to CAstroville for lunc. THen up the coast through Santa Cruz, around Swanton Rd. near Davenport, Gazos Creek Rd to Pescadero, then Stage Rd from there to San Gregorio. After that up 84 to Alice's and across Skyline to 9, then down the hill and back home. Here are a few pics from the ride.

Gilles - I took one just for you.

Quite different from the GT. I could tell it's a little lighter and the shorter wheelbase is nice. I didn't realize how touchy the GT's initial on-throttle response was until I spent a little time riding this. I'm in the process of reprogramming my right hand. Also, with the throttle by wire, exhaust valve, etc., the engine braking is greatly reduced from my older R bikes; The GT may have had a bit more than this new R engine does now. So I'm having to reprogram my "here's how you ride an R bike" software as well. Overall I think its a great bike and I really like the new motor, and it will be fun to learn just what all it can do and what I can do with it.

Oh, and the chicken strips are almost gone.
