Shouldn't be a problem, we rode from Midway Utah (CCR) and made it all the way to Nebraska City, Iowa that night (wouldn't want to do it again though!).

Wished I'd known he was in SLC, we ate at this amazing resturant that had 200 year old structures/pagoda's imported from Vietnam placed around a courtyard. You can guess the type of food/sushi and it was gooood. Only 3 blocks from Larry's Schumers house where I had a great nights rest.

HEY BOB, where you going next?
Did not figure he'd be on the road so early, thought he would leave a day before CCR and just ride straight thru.
I'm visiting my cousin in Kearney,NB tomorrow and back on the road Monday headed for Woody's "SoberBiker" place near Chicago.

Middle southern Nebraska on Hwy 80.
Man they got some major mowing projects out here.
All the freeway interchanges look like golf courses.
Windy too but clear skies and only mid 90 degrees for high so far.

Re: Doug to CCR

8/21 - 695 miles

Stopped 60 miles short of my cousins as it would have been 7:30 pm before I got there and I was beat fighting the wind and dodging asshat truckdrivers .
Seems they wait till I'm just up to them before they slap on a turnsignal and literally cut me off so they can slowly pass one of their buddies.
I'm cruising at 84mph (GPS says I'm averaging 74mph), them 70mph so I have to slam on the brakes.
Maybe I should not have given the first guy the WTF signal and he's got them all waiting for me????
OH Well, I'll stay off the road tomorrow and they will be long gone.

8/22 - 60 miles
Relaxed yesterday at my cousins, homecooked supper.
On the road at 7:00am, now 12:00 noon at an Iowa Rest Stop that has wireless, cool.
I could not get my cousins internet to connect?? He said that's normal.
Windmills everywhere in Iowa, nice breeze right now, 82 degrees.

Re: Doug to CCR

I know what you mean about the trucks. It is possible to pass them several times a day where you may stop two to three times to their one. I really think it's more about their momentum than to single you out. But when my truck driving brother drove my car with me back to Me from CA last summer, he couldn't believe all the bad truck driver moves he observed in those few days. He was amazed at some of the things they did. It really pissed him off more than once.

Don't forget to stop here if you can: http://iowa80truckstop.com/

Re: Doug to CCR

Yes, every full rest stop in Iowa got free high speed Wireless this year. It seems to span the parking lots to that cars and trucks can use it. At night, they have free, high speed mosquitos, too.

Even the Gas Station store in Buford, WY (Pop. 1, Elevation 8000) on I-80 has free wireless. And free coffee with a fill-up, although I don't know about 6 Gal. tanks.

Pretty soon, I suspect it will be just about everywhere. I think its that way so that iPhone owners can use Skype to make calls that don't drop. :<)

Its 82 today around Chicago, and less humid than it was.

Ride Safe.

Re: Doug to CCR

8/23 - Forgot to check mileage (600+)

Stopped at a Super 8 in Peru, Iowa.
Scored a free FatTire beer at adjacent "Bar and Grill" because Super 8 sent me.
Nice day for riding, 94 thru Omaha but 80's elsewhere and cold front moving this way.
On to Lake Erie tomorrow and ride along the south shoreline as recommended in travel story in a recent "Rider" magazine.

8/24 - 550 miles

Overcast and perfect riding weather, 86 degrees max.
Left Iowa, passed thru Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and stopped for tonight in Erie, PA.
Tomorrow ride along Lake Erie to Niagara Falls and stay with a guy from the ADVrider site I meet in Alaska who has a place 12 miles from the Falls on Lake Ontario.

If you pass through Dunkirk, NY, take a couple of pictures. I lived there while going to college at SUNY Fredonia (village adjacent to Dunkirk).

Also, while going through Buffalo, stop and get some CHICKEN WINGS!!!!!

At the Anchor Bar. They literally invented chicken wings in 1976. Mild, medium, and oh-my-God-I'm-going-to-die... They serve them with blue cheese dressing and celery sticks.

I spent a week there one night....

How come you haven't filled in NY yet on your map? hehe

I like reading your trip reports. I know you'll enjoy the falls. Or should I say, THE Falls.
I stayed there overnight last August when me and my bro drove my car back to ME from CA. I was a little bit impressed with all that water.

Have a safe trip and keep us informally informed.

8/25 - 147 miles

Rode Hwy 5 from Erie, Pa to Buffalo for lunch.
Good call on the Anchor Bar, enjoyed the wings.
Proceeded on to Niagara Falls and then to Niagara on the Lake, Ontario to stay with a guy I meet at the Artic Circle.

8/26 Noon at Freeway rest stop.
Now headed to Boyertown, Pa via the Finger Lakes region of NY.
Cloudy and 70 degrees but angry cloud comming so I'm going to hit the road and try to outrun it.

Re: Doug to CCR

8/27 - 185 miles

Dropped south from Boyertown to cross Delaware border, then took the I-95 north (Jersy Turnpike) to Lodi, NJ. stopping in Philadelphia at Independance Hall.
Perfect weather. Clear, 84 degrees max.
Several stop&go stretches on the Turnpike (we get that for free, here you pay, WTF.
Going to drive around in NYC tomorrrow, hope traffic will be tolerable on a Saturday, then maybe a loop of Long Island and head for Conn. and RI.

PS
Just set up lunch at Ray's (ConspiracyofOne) house in the Bronx.

Re: Doug to CCR

Doug,
Glad to see you are enjoying yourself. Riding around NYC for fun? You are sick dude. Make sure its not rush hour. Which is most of the day! The ferry from eastern Long Island to Connecticut is nice. Just don't get caught taking pictures of the ferry. They will accuse you of being a terrorist. Don't ask me how I know.

Had meatball subs at Louis Seafood (one of those famous Bronx Italian eateries near my house). Enjoyed seeing Doug; we had a nice visit just sittin out front watchin the cars go by...you would think I lived on a race track and not a residential street.

Doug can now vouch for why I will remain bikeless as long as I live in NYC. Hahahahaha

Re: Doug to CCR

Ray, good to hear from you, glad all is well!

Doug reports he has no Internet connection tonight, but reports all is well. He is in Mystic Seaport, Connecticut. Drove through Rhode Island looking for a place for dinner.

Doug spent the whole day cruising around New York, and saw Times Square, aircraft carrier Intrepid, Wall Street, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn bridge, George Washington bridge, then to the Bronx. Said he really enjoyed himself, although every road everywhere was under construction. Tomorrow Boston...

Re: Doug to CCR

I hate the Internet, did entire Reply and hit "Preview" and it disappeared so here we go again.

8/30
Left Mystic at 8:30 and proceeded to the very tip of Cape Cod, Provencetown. Took a couple pics and backtracked to Plymouth, CT. Visied the "Rock" and had great Clam Chowder and stuffed Clams at the Cabby Shack on the Harbor.
Nice weather, clear, low humidity, 80-85 degrees.
Nice ride with lots of classic Cape Cod houses on tree lined streets to see. Speed limits are slow, 35 - 50 mph but I allowed plenty of time and it's nice to slow down.
Will decide in morning wether to visit Boston or take backroads to Killington, only 200 miles to go. Will have covered almost 4000 miles in 10 travel days.
Only VT, NH and MA left and will have ridden in all 50 states.

Riding the LT as Janet flys into Burlington, VT Saturday and we will continue east to Nova Scotia.

CCR has scaled down reflecting the economic times. Only a couple vendors and approx 230 registrants.

Warmer than normal clear weather and very green scenery, contrast to last years Black Hills venue.

Next years location will be anounced Friday evening, hope to see you there next year.

Our problem this year was the location as it would have eaten up all our vacation time to ride round-trip to VT from CA. And Raffy was not going...!
We hope to see you on the Fort Bragg ride.
Is the weather (Earl) affecting CR?

Miss having all you westcoast folks at CCR. We will find out tonight where 2011 CCR will be held.

David Taylor will post the Fort Bragg ride for late October when he returns from CCR.
See you there for sure.

Earl having zero affect. Today is to be last day of a heat wave. Yesterday I visited longest covered wooden bridge in the world (it's still in use) and it was 92 degrees, good thing majority of the backroads I traveled were shaded. Tonight 50% chance of showers and tomorrow highs in the 70's.

Off to Burlington, VT tomorrow to meet Janet's 6:30pm flight arrival. Looks like Earl will be gone and we should get good weather in Nova Scotia.
