Watch out for trees when riding

As if their aren't enough things to consider when riding.

I was riding on highway 9 north of Saratoga yesterday when I came upon this motorcycle accident. This rider was leading his group of 4 or 5 when a tree just happened to fall as he was passing. He fell off the bike and it slid down the road a bit. He was injured and bleeding from the helmet but was apparently ok. His friends were comforting him as they awaited the ambulance. Others helped move some of the tree but waited for the proper authorities before removing the rest of the tree from the power line. There was enough room for the many bikes to continue on but all the cars had to turn around.

The bike on the far right was righted and sitting quite a ways from the rider

A closer look at his bike

And just a little while later while riding in the Santa Cruz Mountains I came upon this as I rounded a corner

I think I'll stick to the Sierra's from now on. Just getting to and from the bay area I had to split way too much traffic. And splitting practically all the way down highway 17 when I left for home.

I love a good tree like the next person

But please trees, stand tall.

OUCH - In WV, where I learned to ride, there are signs all over warning you to look out for "Falling Rocks."

Don't know if there is much that you can do when a rock or gravel rolls down the mountain! The only time I ever laid down the bike, a Honda 350, was around a curve on a patch of loose gravel....Boy that will make you pucker..... Took a few days to pull out the seat!

I wish it wasn't the only time, but I too had that experience on a Honda 350. The (non mandatory at the time helmet) saved me on that one.
