Splat!

What has a 6 foot wing span and goes thump! Splat! on the nose of a motorcycle.

All I can say is yuk! The dam thing flew up out of the weeds along the river at the last second in a corner. I was leaned over doing "just over" the speed limit and caught the big SOB on the nose of the FJR. It was a glancing blow but the bird exploded with a big part rolling up the shield and off the top of my helmet. Luck I ducked or I would have got a face full with my shield open.
Guts and meat everywhere!

Wink Re: Splat!

Your in big trouble NOW!
Migratory Bird Act of 1918 prohibits killing of Vultures, Condors and Hawks.
Suggest you get one of these immediatly to show your good faith to never KILL again.

Looks like it will just fit behind the windshield and only $550.

Glad you kept your mouth closed and remained in control.

Can you imagine hitting one of those while riding a bike with ape hangers?

Gerr-Ose! Nice Driveway, BTW -- and nice green grass

You are definitely lucky ..... or unlucky, depending how you look at it.

I haven't hit an animal on a motorcycle (YET). I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Glad you are okay!

The wrong type of animal attraction?

Oh a few but I always try my best to miss without losing control. I refuse to crash to avoid an animal if it's smaller than me. This is my second large bird, the first was a hawk on I-5 with the LT. Roger was following and may have gotten some goo from the splat on that one.
Riding on the river everyday I have just missed many small critters on the road and have hit 1 about every month. But I'm not the only one there is road kill that lines the river road, thus the big ugly birds that feast on that. The river road is still a good commute in comparison to the slab.

I agree completely, never swerve to miss the critters. You'll end up getting hurt yourself. Keep the shiny/bloody side up

Talking Re: Splat!

Glad you and the FJ survived the impact John! We know all about big birds getting too close for comfort as well. Luckily ours did not result in contact, but there have been several close encounters with the scavengers on the highway.

So how did the Bike clean up?

It was a fowl mess! Kind of like shredded uncooked chicken. But it all washed off and the smell is much better now.

Re: Splat!

Here's one you can pull on your friends. A couple of weeks ago the SO and I were were sitting at a local pub with two other couples. They were talking about how bad the police were in Illinois (commonly called the Police State around here). This conversation went on for a while when I finally spoke up. I said, "Yeah, they are pretty bad. Once I was riding down the highway in my car and a state cop was behind me. A pheasant came up out of the ditch, hit my windshield, and flew back and hit the cops windshield and it shattered. He then pulled me over and give me a ticket." The two other women exclaimed, "What for!" I said for flipping him the bird!" The hook was set and hilarity commenced.
