End of an era for me

Hung up the gloves and stowed the boots away today. Just about 45 minutes ago, my last motorcycle sold and towed out of my driveway.

It's been great +/- 40 years of riding. My last accident was the impetus for the decision to hang it up.

I have fond memories riding all over the US in the last 9 years and 11 months.

No regrets.

Hey Raffy,

Hope you don't go away. Regardless of how many wheels you'll be riding, you're part of us.

I've been talking with a lot of us who've been around a long time. I expect the next adventures might be on 2 wheels for some and 4 wheels for others, but we're all still connected.

Re: End of an era for me

I kinda know how you feel Raffy. I still would love another LT, but between the lowered income of retirement, and my wife's reluctance for me to have another bike, I don't know if I will ever ride again. However, the years I had my LT(s), and the many friends I gained on the LT web groups have been a big part of my life that will never be forgotten. I have many precious memories from the LT years, thus my continued presence here. Still living it in heart, if not physically. I really enjoyed the times I met you over the years, and feel that like me, not having a bike certainly does not rule out still having great feelings for them and the people met along the way.

Good luck to you whatever is next on the agenda, and glad to hear you will still be kicking around here.

I don't want to achieve immortality through my work...I want to achieve it through not dying.

Wow, sheesh! Raffy is hanging up on riding, is my first reaction. Raffy, although you don't know me; we have never rode together, met, or even discussed anything openly on the same thread. I've been reading your threads, heeding your advice, and I've had a richer experience on my lT, because of your input. I would wager dollars to donuts that I'm not the only anonymous benefactor of your shared knowledge, experience and wisdom on the LT. I'm glad to see you will continue to write, even though you will no longer ride. Kindest regards, Don Miller

Well, you did allude to the possibility that this was going to happen, but we were really hoping it wasn't to be. I recall our first meeting up at the last MOA Rally in Redmond Raffy! And you have been a big part of our LT experience all these years since. So, we know you will always be a part of this great group with or without 2 wheels!

When the Sasquatch gang was in Torrey last year, we all talked about getting into Jeeps.

It's too bad I don't have the financial means to be into Gulfstreams.

Raffy, even though we have never ridden together or "swapped spit" I respect your decision. As many have said before, I hope you don't fade away and will contiune to support the Forum with your knowledge and will continue to market your products at CCR.

I have had the pleasure of dealing with you over the past 2-3 CCR's as I have purchased some of your farkles. You come well-respected in this community and feel that you stand behind what you sell and shy away from the junk!

Thanks again for your contributions.

I hope you find something just as enjoyable. I also enjoy anything to do with water. It's not quite the same as putting on the gear to ride 5 miles or 5000 miles. Hiking is something I also enjoy. I didn't ride for 22 years after my accident. I have never met you but have spoke to ya & have purchased parts from you. Keep up the good service.

Yo, Raffy - tho you're grounded off two wheels for now, you can't leave *your* community. The salary cap increase hasn't been approved for your replacement yet, AND the Bored of Directors don't have any plans for a hiring session any time soon, so stay in touch - and don'tcha dare go on a recruiting mission!!!

Do take care, Raffy. I sure like the way you support your family wishes, and your commitment to make a sacrifice in honor of them and your own feelings after the 'incidents'. As Grif would say: "I love ya, man".

Come to think of it, if anyone has any pictures of me while riding or at any event, please email them to me or post them up here. I'd like to post them up on Facebook in an album I have created: America Through Motorcycling.

Re: End of an era for me

I'll look for more pics for you to have. I recently went from a desktop to a netbook. I lost some pics but I think I still have them in my mp3.

That pic of you was when we were just getting in to Death Valley. I can't remember which year. I know that I was hanging out there with Dell and Bruce and you in the parking lot area. Then we all split up to go check into our rooms. Dell and I left together. He followed me. We were probably riding too fast as an LEO going in the opposite direction tapped on his lights a couple times but just kept on going. We slowed down. We both thanked him to ourselves in our helmets. Didn't again speed in the valley, that day.

By the way, was there a norcal group in DV this year?

Re: End of an era for me

When it's time, it's time. Hopefully we will all know it as clearly as you.
Now it's time to find other enjoyments. There are lots and lots out there.
Good luck.

Re: End of an era for me

That's Old Sacramento Road leading to Hwy 16. I believe we stopped to take pictures and we saw some deer in the field to the right.
