HID H7 Replacement bulb..

Before I have to tear into the nose cone, I hope not to. I thought I would try to replace the Bulb on the bike. I haven't heard of HID blowing out bulbs, but suppose it can happen, right?
Anyone in the Sacramento area know where I can pick on of these hot bulbs up at?

I had to replace one of my HID's last year. I called the company that I bought is from and the sold me just the bulb. HIDonline I think.

Re: HID H7 Replacement bulb..

Not sure (who to ask) Grifscoots or Raffy. I am trying to source the bulb, but think it may be the ballast. (Have to go with the worst case scenario you know!) As I'm laid up with the flu, it did not dawn on me to switch ballasts to see if that is my problem. If so, I'll convert the low beam back to stock as I ride with Piaa's, Motolights (LED-Thanks Raffy) and my bright on most often.. If its the bulb, I was hoping to source it locally, but stops at Napa and Tognottis were futile...

Re: HID H7 Replacement bulb..

I believe that's one of the original HID kits if it has white connectors. You will not find an original replacement anywhere unless someone just happens to have one that they took off their bike.

I might have one. Need to check. On the other hand, you could buy a new complete kit for about $100.

I'll know tomorrow after I dig around the garage.

Call me to remind me tomorrow.

Re: HID H7 Replacement bulb..

Steve:

Did you swap ballasts and what were the results?

I checked my parts bins and found one brand spanking new H7 HID with the white connectors on the ends. This is the www.hid-online.com bulb.

If you have the black connectors with the water 'proof' ends, then you will need to cut the ends off and install corresponding black male and female connectors. I have a used bulb with the black connectors and ballast that came off of my 2004 LT. Also from the same vendor.

Let me know.

Re: HID H7 Replacement bulb..

Thanks for that...I just got back from the doctors. Seems I have a nasty chest something! Haven't had the time, effort or energy to make it out to tackle that project. I did get the seat switch out to another member though...(pay it forward, its a great concept) Anywhoo, I have not looked at the connecting ends yet. I'll call you or email next week. Thanks for looking and for being my "supplier" of choice!!!

Re: HID H7 Replacement bulb..

Get well.

I'll be on the road for work next week till Thursday afternoon. I'll check messages.

I left the bulb with white connectors on my desk in case you need it.

Question Re: HID H7 Replacement bulb..

I have those waterproof connectors and crimpers and can make them up for you if you need.

We can meet some Wednesday before HDDC.

Re: HID H7 Replacement bulb..

Thanks again Raffy. And Bob... I may take you up on the offer. I haven't made an HDDC yet as work tends to get in the way...but, being the boss and the fact that my boss is a fellow GS rider he may allow a slight deviation of my work hours... I'll keep you both posted on the outcomes...

Thanks again!

Re: HID H7 Replacement bulb..

Two weeks has flown by. Finally got into the beast. I was able to "tilt" the nose without having to remove the side tupperware. Anyway, switched the ballasts and its just a bulb that is out. My local dealer Raffy , has the parts and I will get her buttoned back up as to get out when the rain lets up.

Even purchased a set of Hella lights from him. They are on sale you know, get'em while you can!

Here are a few pictures from the short teardown

Thanks for the order and plug Steve.

BTW, test that new bulb before you button up everything

Re: HID H7 Replacement bulb..

One more thing. Wipe the bulb with rubbing alcohol and dry it first befor firing it up. In case there is any oil residue from handling etc.

Re: HID H7 Replacement bulb..

Took a few HOURS today and got the remainder of the headlight backing off and drilled in the new grommet for the new bulb. Connected everything and its all gravy baby! That took all of about 10 minutes. Spent the rest of the time trying to get everything back together and still did not succeed. WTF were they thinking when they designed the spring clip for the low bulb. Can't get the little bastage on. Trying my damndest not to take the nose off the bike so everything has been done lying on my back PITA!!!!

Re: HID H7 Replacement bulb..

The bottom spring wire should go on without too may issues. The top one needs some persuasion. I use long needle nose pliers from underneath to tewak the spring wire. Be very careful you do not snap the plastic hook that it is secured by.

Also make sure the notch at the bulb base is at the 12 o'clock position (up).
