what to get next?

Since my riding days are over (this time for good), I'm thinking I need a toy to provide the necessary release (no not that kind you pervs).

I'm thinking a car/suv of some sorts. Current thoughts:

Dodge 300 SRT8
Porsche 911 (1987-89) (had one) (turbo?)
Porsche Cayenne
1996 Impala SS (had one) nice big american family sedan.
BMW M5 (early one)
BMW 740/750iL (nice family sedan)
M-B E350/420

The Hypermotard will be up for sale soon. The truck and boat may also be up for sale too (Package deal. Buy truck get free boat) depending what I decide to get.

Walk.. No, run from anything that is produced by Dodge/Chrysler! Just quality issues (mainly fit & finish), IMO.

I think the Cayenne would lure me... Very sporty, plus AWD, so when you snow board, it'll get you up the hill to Tahoe.

Re: what to get next?

?

I missed something. I was following your other thread about your recent incident but I didn't see where riding was not in your future - at least, long-term. Crap.

Are you considering something on three wheels - motorcycle with sidecar, trike, Spyder?

Lisa and I think a Ural rig would be a nice addition, and when the time comes that two wheels doesn't work any more, it may be what we focus on. It's definitely a different kind of "touring", but it still gets us out there, provides a little adventure factor, and so on.

Good luck with your decision.

Re: what to get next?

The writing was on the wall after the third get off in two years.

This was the worst of all three. I promised the wife that this was it as far as riding was concerned. She has put up with my riding and understood my passion.

This was my decision for the sake of the kids (not wanting them to go through this again) and like I said to keep my promise to my Patty.

Re: what to get next?

Hi Raffy. Get back into the 911s, they are fun!!! I know you favor 87 and later for the G50 tranny, but if the right deal comes along on an earlier year you should consider it...AND get a Cayman.
While the turbos are fine, the parts and maintenance costs are much higher.
You might enjoy rebuilding an early 911 for that matter.
My boss may be interested in your truck/boat so give us some details if selling.
Can you give us an update on your recovery?

Gilles:

The recovery is going good. I can go up and down the stairs (carefully) with some ease. Still can't pull big toe and ankle back. That's going to take months due to nerve damage. Can walk with one crutch if i need to but two is better for long walks.

Able to drive without too much discomfort.

Had an EKG and stress test done. EKG was normal. Stress test results tomorrow. Heart rate still a bit high (94-100 bpm). Blood pressure is good.

I'll send you a PM on the truck and boat.

While I can not fathom you not "riding" have you considered the new verion of a trike... I know you had one before, but I suspect this beats a 911 any day of the week... $$ may prohibit it though...

Glad to hear you're making progress and using cane/s. And back in the saddle, so to speak, about what to get next. You deserve it. And all the rest of the family too. Everything on your first list sounds like a blast.

Nice TRex. I need something that will carry 4 people at a minimum. I can still fit the two youngest in the back and Matt up front in a 911. The other vehicles will give me the capability to load up all five of us.

It has to be a daily driver rain or shine.

I had a 96 Imapalla SS too. Neat car and plenty of room for the whole family, might be hard to find a clean one now.

How about an A6 wagon or a Caddy STS...

I saw the four passenger requirement, but if you are looking for the thrill of motorcycling in a car I think you can get pretty close in Honda's S2000. The thing corners like a slot car with plenty of zip. Might be a bit snug, if so I would look at the Corvette.

I saw one of these when i stopped for lunch on a ride. Spoke with the owner, who absolutely loves it and seems to be enjoying the hell out of it. I do not know what they cost, sure not cheap but it sure would be on my list.

I am sure sorry to see you leave riding and your recent get-offs, though one has to do what is best for oneself and family, I understand that. Although we have not met, I seem to recall you from the original LT site and enjoyed your posts. Anyway, my choice from your list would be a 911. I wish you well in your future passions and let us know what you end up with..

HI Raffy,
It'll be difficult to replace the sensation of 2 wheels with 4, however if you want somthing for not a lot of money that will give you many smiles/mile go test drive a MINI Cooper S with 6 speed. After 40K miles I still love sliding behind the wheel. It handles like a street legal GO-CART and 0 - 60 times are in the very low 6's (not bad for little 4 banger)! And if you want the air in your hair you can get the soft top.

Raffy, You're gonna need your "fix"... And you probably won't get is from a car...
Getcha a nice ride and then maybe think about an older Jeep or something to get off road with.

That'll give you your adrenaline fix without legal issues.

The only problem I've ever had with a nice fast car it tickets....

I'm currently looking for an older Jeep to go offroading with...
Had a Ramcharger back in the day,, That was a fun rig... Removable hard top... Climbed trees...

Re: what to get next?

Disagree with the comment about the Chrysler.

I have a 2006 Chrysler 300C, Swapped for 20" wheels, put a CAI, swapped the pipes for a catback system deleting the resonators, got a Predator tuner--equivalent of about 405 crank HP. Has been bulletproof, only had a distributor gasket coolant drip that was fixed under warranty. Other than that, not a single problem. (I can get 24 MPG highway if I am gentle, or I can switch off traction control and leave 50 yards of rubber and smoke, I like having the choice--and the back seat is like a limousine).

Would have loved to have the SRT, people on the forums I hang out on have taken those, swapped cams, thrown on superchargers and headers and gotten them into 10-second 1/4 miles. If you can't get a perma-grin with that, you have something wrong with you.

Well, if I were going to give it up and jump into something fun, I think it might be one of these:

You can find out more at Caterham USA. But that's just me.

Re: what to get next?

+1 on the Caterham, but only 2 seats.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_GT4

This is what I'm saving my pennies for. 4 seats, not too fast, not slow, elegant. The car that started the transverse, mid-engine boom for the Scuderia.

This is a great "blog" about how this guy found and acquired his GT4. Good read.

Good luck w/ whatever you choose !

Re: what to get next? update

To get to to what to get next, I have to sell a couple of things first.

I put this under my own vendor forum but thought it would get better exposure here.
