Back in the saddle... again
My bone doc told me last Thursday that I could start walking on my leg again but to be less aggressive with it than last time. I interpret this to mean, don't always walk without crutches or a cane and when you do walk, do it flat footed (without bending the foot) for a while.
Can anyone here think of a better way to reduce walking than riding?? I thought not!!
So, I put 220 miles on the bike on Saturday and began riding into work again this morning.
I now know that any pain I feel is NOT from the physical therapy but rather a sign that the bone is not healed and will stop using my leg if any pain developes. I'm also measuring the circumference of my ankle every night to identify any swelling.
So far, so good. I hope to make it to a HDDC meeting in the near future. Emphasis on "near" guys, if you know what I mean. It's not the miles for me but the time to get there since, with my new job, I'm usually can't leave Redwood City before 5PM.
