The trail is impassable on a GS, the wild animals are stalking human prey, and with the lightning strikes it's pretty dangerous. Not to mention the unfriendly cannibal natives in the area.

You should stay home and come over on Saturday and align my cabinet doors...

Re: Lost Coast Dual Sport Ride 10/3 - 4

Holly Crap !!!!!!!!!
Been there, done that. No more for me !
Those "skinny bikes" ROCK.

Passed me like I was a lumbering Elephant, which I guess I was.
One guy passed me with a flat rear tire trying to catch his buddy who had the tire irons.
And "they" kept making fun of me asking if I couldn't get a couple more "boxes" on there?
They always smiled when I pulled a beer out of the ice chest.

I skipped the last section both days as It was getting dark. I think the route was a little long even for the Skinny bike guys as some did not complete the day one 220+miles till 9:30pm. One group of 5 bikes arrived with only 2 headlights between them.
Bruce on his KLR and his friend who was on a GS had done the Lost Coast/Usal Road before so went home early and skipped Sunday.
.
Did not see anyother GS's on the track and now I know why.
I got alot of "you're doing real good on that big bike, I passed you several times".
Seems the Skinny bikes need to stop often for fuel so the pumps get backed up as they all wait for each group of riders for fill up, then they swap lies for a while and I just cruise on by and they catch me again on the trail so I had to ride 50/50 looking forward and back.

Rode by myself except one pavement section where 3 Skinny bikes caught up and the first passed so I hammered it and rode his ass for for out 10 miles. When they stopped for gas they all high 5'ed me saying man you can ride that big bike. It really was not that had to keep up and with 3 times the cc's I probable could have passed on the straights but it was fun to pick up the pace for awhile as I did not try to set any speed records on the dirt roads as there were many holes and ridges and deep erosion ditches that you needed to make a split decision and pick a side to go by.

Day one, I was one of the few who made it to the top of Lookout Mtn (only 3 sets of tracks when I got there) and on day 2 there was a mud bog on Usal Rd that made me stop and take a second look before plowing thru, then there was the 100 yd uphill section with 3 or 4 deep erosion ditches running down it and I think I ended up in all of them before I managed to get to the top and lost count of how many time I almost dumped it but just stayed on the gas and hung on keeping it pointed uphill (TKC's Rock).

I'll take the Dempster or Dalton Hwy's in the Great White North any day where I can cruise by the Skinny bikes and they can eat my dust.
