Thumbs up EXR - Wildwood/Fortuna/Lost Coast Run

Over the weekend, 14 bikes, with 23 riders did our annual coast run over highway 36 to Fortuna for an over-nighter. No snow fell on us this year on 36, so we considered that a bonus! If you ever find yourself in Northern CA, and haven't run 36 - you should; 140 miles of twisty adventure!

Lots of cold beer awaited us at Eel River Brewery (walking distance from the hotel). FYI: Saturday night is $9.00 pitcher night; outstanding selections! Two bonus rounds on the same day.

Sunday morning was a trip out from Fortuna out Matolla Road (I think it might be 211?) to Capetown, and then the Lost Coast. Calling it a "road" would be considered a stretch - "Goat Trail" comes to mind. This is a feature in my opinion; traffic is non-existant for about 35 - 50 miles.

Came back through Petrolia - this portion (Old Mattola Road I believe it was) had very steep loose gravel, washboard switchbacks that were more suited for the GS than an LT. Nobody went down though (although my pilion was heard to mutter "oh s***" a time or two). I am sure that many of our GS friends know this route well.

Did get a little warm on the way back through Sacramento Valley on the way to Gold Country... All in all, a great weekend of 760 miles of smiles for us. It pays to have a man that manages operations for a large trucking company plan your itinerary. Another great trip planned by Tallyho!

I have a question though, why would you pay him to put you on gravel roads on an LT? Hey Bob, .

Re: EXR - Wildwood/Fortuna/Lost Coast Run

We got all that fun and adventure for free! One of the guys on the trip has a few GS friends that have done that road.

Actually, I would do it again; it wasn't all that bad really.
