R1200RT Broken

Last week a buddy and I went to Death Valley then down to Palm Desert. On the way home his 2008 R1200RT started losing some power and had a miss under acceleration. When he got home he took it into the shop. Well, evidently the BMS-K engine management system went KAPOOTZ (an official German term). Doesn't need new soft wear, it needs an entire new unit which has to be ordered. I haven't heard of this one before. The good news is that it's under warranty. May take a week or two to get it fixed......

Re: R1200RT Broken

Unfortunate and extremely rare, but computers do fail just like most everything else. At least he was able to get it home under its own power, what there was left of it.

Re: R1200RT Broken

Not the first major mishap I've heard on the R1200RT but the first involving a computer. We had an alternator fail, in warranty, out in the middle of Nevada one lovely afternoon. Nine hours of jick-jacking around with BMW roadside assistance and it was back at the dealer.
