Re: Wanna Black Car?
I was looking for a link to verify this, but can not find one. That means you have to take my word...
I worked for a car maker for many years. At one point we had a request from dealers to beef up the AC system on black cars since they would just not cool down enough.
Some engineers got into an argument about this and did a -granted, not totaly scientific- study.
We put black and white cars in the sun in a Florida parking lot with a recording device that recorded interior temperatures at various places inside the cars.
The black cars heated up faster, but after about 30 minutes the temperatures started to even out. After about an hour there was no difference between the black and white cars. The explanation I was given is that the heat enters mainly thru the glass.
Conclusion: If you want to keep your car cooler work with the glass, not the paint color. And btw, the cheap common window tint does only help marginally. The better kind that comes under various name such as "ceramic" does make some difference. Some car companies offer insulating glass. Expensive but effective.
