Lane Splitting

A 68 year old motorcyclist was killed in SF today when he fell and was run over by a school bus. I just had the bike down in San Francisco on Monday and Tuesday. While coming back Tuesday night I did my fair share of lane splitting when traffic slowed. I generally don't split lanes if traffic is moving above 25-30 mph. I just don't like the feeling of passing that close to cars at higher speeds. You never know when someone will veer in their lane. I had to keep an eye in my rear view because bikes were splitting lanes at 55 to 70 mph on Highway 80. I was afraid I would move to the right in my lane and then get hit from behind by a bike splitting lanes at 65 mph. Oh well, must be a sign I'm getting old. Just a reminder, be careful splitting lanes. Wouldn't want to lose the privilege due to too many accidents.

Re: Lane Splitting

I think he'd stopped; fallen over and then run over. Not positive though. In another weird accident an old guy drove his car over the Santa Cruz Boardwalk pier and drowned. Not sure which is the better way to go out...prolly neither.

Now, if he rode a motosickle off the pier and drowned, that would be ok.
