And, besides the two bikes I bought for my boys, I'm adding an 1150RT-P to my garage. I was called at the last minute to go to motor school, which I passed.

Seeing the skill of the local officers on bikes and I am wondering out loud if there are skill schools offered to the public. In my home town the officers have Harleys and I have watched bits and pieces on what they are able to do comfortably on those bikes and I have to admit it is simply amazing! Not stealing the thread ~ just simply curious about the motor school and whether there is an equivalent available to the public.

Call the Regional Academy, operated by the Alameda Country Sheriff's Department. Periodically they hold a 1 or 2 day abreviated "motor" school for civilians--at least they used to hold the school. Give 'em a call.

Yes here:

http://sheriffacademy.com/classes/ev...otor/class.htm

They have a basic class this Saturday, and an Intermediate class on Sunday, they have availability on both classes, I will call tomorrow on which class to take. The advanced class is the 8th.

Bob:

It's a great class taught by some retired CHP & OPD instructors. You will find it quite challenging, and be in awe when you see the proficiency and the capabilites of the instructors. One of the instructors used to be an Officer Cadamatori, who was a motor officer on the OPD Drill team, and instructor.

They used to have the Kawasaki police bikes, but that was years ago, although they are probably still the bike of choice. They used to buy them used from surrounding police depts, but nowadays I don't know if any bay area departments still use them.

Talked to the folks at the training center, You now have the choice of an BMW RTP, or a Harley, or a Suzuki Dual Sport to rent.

They will also evaluate you at the basic class, to either stay there or have you come back for the Intermediate class. Advanced class is by instructor recomendation only.
