Ride out to CCR

Nancy and I are heading out to CCR on Tuesday morning and would like company crossing the desert.

Our plan is to leave early (maybe 7, 7:30, possibly earlier, departure time negotiable) from A&S, or thereabouts, and take a route through Reno, Fernley, Fallon, Ely, Delta, Nephi and Provo.... adds about 30 miles over taking I-80 direct, but a lot better vistas... except for Delta .

Lunch in Ely around 1, 1:30 possibly earlier.

With the time change, we should get into Zermatt by 9 PM local.

You can PM with questions.

Re: Ride out to CCR

I will be at the Zermatt by Monday night, see you there.

Family gathering in the hills east of Fresno Saturday, so will leave from there Sunday and go over Tioga, then east by route to be determined.

Plus one on that! But I also know Billy "enjoys" averaging 83 mph!

FYI: There is a horrendous amount of construction going on I80 eastbound from Applegate over the pass all the way through to Mogul on the NV side. Probably seven or eight sections totaling 40-50 miles of construction zone down to one lane at 45 and 55 mph with plenty o'CHP about. There is a bridge under construction near Floriston that had traffic backed up about three miles last Wed morning. They were ticketing bikes trying to use the shoulder to cut in front.

Take care and we'll see you there!

Well, Bob.... I resemble that remark

But, truth be told Nancy and I are not THAT CRAZY, we'll only have to average 58.5 mph with an hour for lunch excluded from the average. Very doable with 400+ miles across the Nevada desert.

Thanks for the "heads-up" on I-80 delays, we might take 50 through Carson as an alternative.

Re: Ride out to CCR

Hmm. I get 434 miles from A&S to Ely on the route you described. Six hours with a fifteen minute fuel stop is more like 72 mph. But what's 15 mph among friends, eh? We'll be hustling through the desert ourselves hoping to average close to the same.

On the I80 thing, we're going to take that route early this Friday morning and hope to "slip through" before traffic builds up. Even with the slower speeds, it's still a nice route through the mountains before the trucks "wake up."

Howdy Bob,

Were tracking together on this. I figured a higher average in Nevada and then slowing down in Utah.....The Utah H.P. have no sense of humor about the speed limit

You and Jeanie have a safe ride and watch out for those Utah HP guys.

We'll be dropping into Utah from the north on US191 Tuesday going through Vernal then swinging across US40 to Midway. We have at least one of those Escort detectors in our group but usually take it easy as we go. If we could just get those Utah HP to carry spare final drives with them......

Is this week going slow or what??

Re: Ride out to CCR

My buddy Rob and I are heading out Friday to Ely via Sonora pass and Tonopah, then on to Torrey to fart around with ElJeffe and crew for a couple of days. After that abunch of twisty backroads up to Midway and then the fun will begin even more!

So Bill - I take it we'll have to get in out usual ride and a beer or three afterwards?

Re: Ride out to CCR

If you get a chance to run up the western side of Flaming Gorge Canyon, on the left heading north towards Manilla (yes, take the western side of the Gorge), after the top of the Gorge, there is a very interesting road called something like Sheepdip Road. Take it if you can as there are some very interesting folded rock formations there and some good bits of history.....its worth the detour.

Thumbs up Re: Ride out to CCR - I 80 OK

Bill,

We came through eastbound I80 over Donner without issue on Friday morning. Looks like nearly all the construction in California is done on the eastbound side. There were a few spots still down to one lane but just a couple for only a few miles. There is some rough pavement from Mogul to Keystone on the Nevada side but after that its clean and clear to your turn at Fernley. I would not hesitate at all to come through that way when you leave.

We're on our second night in West Yellowstone having a great time. No issues on any of the bikes and the weather has been just outstanding.

Howdy Bob and thanks for the update!

I just sat down and was going to send you a PM to get the 411 on I-80.

Glad to hear the trip is going well. Be safe and see you and Jeanie Wednesday....if not during the day, then perhaps on the Train Ride.

Re: Ride out to CCR

Decided to finish a few things around the ranch Sunday, so just did the I-80 thing today one shot straight thru.

Left A&S at 9:15am and arrived 10 hours later after 777 miles.
97 degrees across the flats but 79 at the resort.

Just ordered some food and sucking down a swiss ale, then going to visit the booze brothers to say hello/goodnight.
