Ultimate Ride 8/2/08

100,000 feet elevation in one day.
http://www.coloradobeemers.org/content/view/28/37/

Could a 1000 in 24 to get there or back (1124 miles to Denver).

Re: Ultimate Ride 8/2/08

I've seen this advertised every year in the BMW magazines and have it in my hip pocket for some year. I'm hoping one of the major nationals ends up in the vicinity in the next 2-3 years. Just sounds like an excellent concept and awesome ride.

Yeah, it's on my list of to-ride places as well.

But it'd be more interesting if you had to return to sea level between each set of passes.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

I think Grif (TX) and Hector (NY) got together in New Braunfels and rode out to CO to run this several years back, riding the LTs. Grif still talks about it now and then - wonder if he'd like to run it on the GT now??

I don't know, I hear you can lose up to 30% of your horsepower above 10,000 feet. That would put the GT down to a lowly 106 HP. On second thought, that's still more than the LT can generate at sea level.

But considering the week Grif's been having, I'd say he'd rather walk those 100,000 feet.

Re: Ultimate Ride 8/2/08

I have made this ride 3x. It is awesome! Also, the guys at Foothills BMW do a great job of feeding you!! In 2003, the lunch was in Vail; catered German cuisine (schnitzel, brats, saurkraut, etc). Was a great lunch. Just be prepared for all kinds of weather. I have seen sun, rain, sleet, and snow during this event. Wish I could make it this year, but that is Gianna's babyshower so no travel for me

Re: Ultimate Ride 8/2/08

Maybe we can do that thing up in Jaspar and run this on the way home?
