Ironbutt Ride SS 1000

Denise and I are going to do a SS 1000 Ironbutt ride for our anniversary this week end. We'll leave Napa Friday at midnight head south down to Baker via 29-12-80-680-580-5-223-58-15 then head north again on 127-95-80 and home. Should be home around 9 to 10 pm Around 1160 miles. Just hope the weather holds up.

I will see you Friday afternoon for start mileage.

Have to talked to Paul regarding ending mileage on Sat night, or Sunday? He's working swing shift both days.

Re: Ironbutt Ride SS 1000

Good Luck Bruce. Hopefully, you can keep up with Denise's Spyder!

I may do another SS1000 on 4th of July. It's actually a light traffic day - LONG daylight hours; and no construction delays, because they're off for the holiday!

Just ride safe and STOP if you get tired! I took a 1 hour nap, and it made all the difference.

Re: Ironbutt Ride SS 1000

Good luck you guys.

FYI:
Mapsource says Napa to Baker, turn around and return is 988 miles, 15:38 hours. Couple laps around the block and you got your 1000SS. Good straight roads (mostly freeway) and lots of good rest stops. May even want to turn around a Mojave as the 2 lane from there to Barstow is no passing and always slow. Make up the distance somewhere on I-5 by doing a loop.

Your route is 1160 miles, 21:13 hours.
Better scenery but alot of 2 lane and could be warm/more tiring and traffic to pass.

Be careful - the IBA discourages "looping" miles. For example, if the distance between 2 receipts is 100 miles, and you claim 125 miles, chances are the IBA will not count the extra 25 miles without some sort of proof other than your word that you actually travelled those unverifable miles.

Make sure your final route is supported by receipts!

Re: Ironbutt Ride SS 1000

It was basically a no brainer. I've been on all the roads before at one time or another. I wanted a route that would have little or no traffic and could by timing avoid the bottlenecks. Denise did really well on her Spyder but discovered that the the windshield didn't offer much protection from buffeting and bugs. She collected some really nice ones too(bugs). Looking foward to the next Ironbutt ride.

Denise rode her own bike. We were separate but together. After 31 years of marriage we purdy much know what each other is thinking. We drive our kids nuts.
