Thumbs up Calif/Daytona/Key West/Calif

Day 1 ended at Joel (kdog) and Dawn's beautiful home in Kingman,Az.

Left Wesley/I5 at 8 am and arrived Kingman at 6 pm. Unevenful ride, all freeway with good weather. 610 miles

Stayed with Joel and had great home cooked/bbq'd meal.

Day 2 started after more visiting with Joel at 830. In perfect clear blue skies Joel lead us to an old Route 66 service station/museum for a look around, Pics later.

Bob and I then headed toward Prescot, turning east to Jerome, then on to Sedona for lunch. Proceeded on to Flagstaff, east on Hwy 40 to visit the Meteor Crater. Somewhat disappointing as it has not changed one bit since my last visit 40 years ago?? Then on to Winslow to do some "Standin on a Corner". Made it to Holbrook, Az for the night. 380 miles

Tomorrow head towards San Antiono.

Just pulled into Van Horn, Tx. 7:30 here (crossed the Central time Zone 4 miles back). Almost 600 miles, perfect weather, crappy 4:00 traffic at El Paso.

Headihg for some dinner now, more later.

Great seeing Bob again and meeting Doug for the first time. We had a most enjoyable evening. In the morning, I escorted them out to Hackberry, a nothing town along the old Rt 66 where we grabbed a few pics. Then I sent them on their way. It would be about 70 more miles to go down Rt 66 before they'd see any signs of civilization again.

Here are our boys parked in front of the Hackberry General Store.

Humble Doug.

Re: Calif/Daytona/Key West/Calif

Bob and I made it to San Antonio for dinner with Dave, Doug and Ed at the Flying Saucer Pub downtown (thanks Dave for the shuttle service).

Good weather (windy in spots) and 500+ miles.

Stopped at Judge Roy Beans place in Langtree, Tx. Very interesting what went on out in the middle of no where, a must visit if you're in the area.

Must have encountered at least 40 troopers today along the border or headed south towards it. None looked our way as we were never exceeding the recommended speeds, ya right.

Will check out the Alamo in the morning before heading east.

Greetings from Lone Pine. I am on my way home from Vegas via Death Valley and Lone Pine. Got through DV on my own 4 wheels, too bad not on two as the weather and wildflowers were spectacular, and there were many bikes out.

Nathan and the AWMC guys should be here shortly. I will have dinner with them and head home in the AM.

As you will soon see, the story of the Alamo is much larger than the actual Alamo.

Smile Re: Calif/Daytona/Key West/Calif

Saturday Noon;

Finally a wireless connection that works:

Made Baton Rouge last nigth, cloudy day, got up to 78 degrees, did 500 miles after a slightly late start due to late night fun with San Antonio boys.

Just Freewaying (Hwy 10) it now to make time and not much to see anyway.

Found a great Cajun Resturant next to the Best Western. We highly recommend Don's Seafood Shack in Denham Springs, La. Started with a Crawfish sampler and received a lesson in how to eat them. Then Bob got the aligator appitiezer and the crayfish 5 lb platter. I had
seafood soup the shrimp platter. Man was it all goooood. Naturally it all had to be washed down with gallons of Blue Moon beer.

Bobs input,

Doug's Alaska hat attracted a local which regaled us with his Alaska fishing trips, (something I should mention about the locals, they take their fishing and hunting very seriuosly, there was a Bass Pro fish off going on in Denham Springs that had the local police out in force, which made for an interesing entrance into town...grin.)

By the end of the evening, we were being comp'd beer and samples of all the baked oysters they served by the manager, and of course more blue moon beer to wash it all down, then one of our pal's freind (former bartender at Don's) who then served us several diferent shots of who knows what, they were good though, Don's then forced to leave, so they could close, Slept Well.

Now in Florida, sitting at a DQ by Pensacola for lunch, with 300 miles to go.

Made it to Belleview, Fl. in the dark at 8:15 pm after a 650 mile day. 3150 miles in 6 days.

Paul and Nancy Meredith meet us at a local BBQ joint and then we followed them to their beautiful home in a gated community.

Weather is perfect.

Will be going to Daytona later this morning to see what thats all about.

Re: Calif/Daytona/Key West/Calif

10:00 pm and just returned from Daytona.

Insanity.
Somehow, every bike on the planet with loud pipes is in Daytona.
Constant roar.
Bought a teeshirt at Daytona BMW, checked out the Daytona Speedway and visited several vender venues, they are located all over town.

Excellent seafood dinner, then 1 1/2 hour ride back to Paul and Nancy Meredith's.

Pooped from all the walking today after sitting on the bike for 6 days.

Off to the Kennedy Space Center tomorrow on the way to Key West.

Good Night

Yep, and feeling old too.

Second day of hiking today, this time at the Kennedy Space Center. It's an all day kind of place that we rushed thru in 4 hours. Worth the visit and them Rockets is really BIG.

Only made it to Coco tonight.

Weather was clear in AM and 82, but clouded up in the afternoon, pleasant.

Plan to head toward Key West in the morning (350 miles yet), but will probably stop short of the Causeway and do an early Wednesday morning ride out across the Keys to the end of the road (most southern spot in the US). Then turn around and head home.

Space center can take several days to do it justice. 4 hours barely scratches the surface.

Check out Duval St in Key West, but be careful (you'll see why).

You should have seen us go by the cam around 5:30 Tuesday night, twice.

Did the picture at the Southern most point monument (3924 miles covered so far) and cruised up and down Duval St. What a party for a Tuesday night and the cars and bikes just seemed to be an endless parade going souith on into the night. No rooms to be had in Key West so I hope they all had reservations or were going to party all night.

We returned back up the Key for 50 miles before we found a vacancy. A 2 bedroom 2 bath suite with view of the Gluf off our third flood deck (or so they said as it was dark).

Went back toward Key West 4 miles to a seafood resturant that was not that great??????????? Since you are 100 miles out in the Ocean you think they would have seafood down to a science. Oh Well, I guess we will stick with BBQ cause they have been great.

The sunrise was as promised and we were slow to get going, Just kind of digesting how far from home we have come, and how far it is to return.

Made it to Ft Myers, Fl. today. Encountered one 5 minute sprinkle just after getting off the Keys before turning west.

Stopped and took an Airboat ride on the Everglades. What a blast and got up close and personal with several aligators and various other critters and birds.

Hoping to make it back to Denham Springs, La. again by Friday night to take the locals up on their invite as we came east. Don's Seafood Shack has been our favorite stop so far and expect bigger and better on the return visit.

Weather is starting to cloud up but hope to make the turn west at the Florida panhandle before all that bad weather from Great Lakes area pushes down here. Will just have to hope for the best. Clowdy/sunny today, 84 dergees.

Just checked in to a Days Inn in Chipley, Fl., a 500 mile day in cloudy but pleasant weather and no rain, 75 degrees. Just short of Alabama border and gaining back one hour.

Looking forward to tomorrow night back in Denham Springs, La. (Cajin Couintry) and more Crayfish/Oysters and Blue Moon Beer.

Re: Calif/Daytona/Key West/Calif

Dodged all the wild weather in Florida and made it to Durham Springs without getting wet. Areas we came thru yesterday got hammered with rain and tornadoes.

Rained several hours last night, but calm and cloudy this morning and 74 degrees. But as we headed west the temperature steadly dropped to low 40's as we encountered the front that caused the snow in Houston last night.

Supposed to be clear and sunny tomorrow here but may cloud up in Texas (hoping front pushes north and we slip underneath). Forcast for southwest next week is clear and sunny so should make for good riding to finish the trip.

Time to rest up for Cajin hospitality and food tonight at our favorite resturant of the trip, Don's Seafood Hut. This is a must stop if you are ever passing this way.

Hey, Doug - my plans went kablooie after Dave Moore called me from Phoenix and said you guyz were gonna try and make San Antonio this evening. I had a kitchen pass approved; Cheryl's cage on tap; and then ......

My near and dear elderly neighbor passed the other morning, and this evening they had the viewing and the local memorial - burial will be in Ft. Worth later next week. So, while I had good intentions of connecting with you and Ten Beers, it didn't work out. My loss.

Glad you guyz are having a great trip. And a safe one. And with plenty of good food along the way. Continue on safely and we'll be watching for y'alls trip report once thangs get back to normal at home.

Best Regards.

Now in Las Cruces, New Mexico, I-10 straight thru from San Antonio.

Dodged several angry looking clouds and had severe cross-winds most of the way.

Headed towards the Grand Canyon tomorrow for a Tuesday morning visit and possibly make it to Kingman for Tuesday night, then home Wednesday.

475 miles from Las Cruces to Flagstaff today. Great weather and fantastic roads. Took hwy 152 over to 180 thru the mountains. It was great to do some twisties after all the freeway miles.

Off to the Grand Canyon in the morning.

Re: Calif/Daytona/Key West/Calif

Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon, watch the I-Max movie, visit the
El Tovar Hotel, peek over the edge at the canyon, have lunch then head for Hoover Dam at 1:30.

Arrive at Hoover Dam at 4:30, take a few pictures and move on. Got to Stateline and place was a zoo so we pushed on to Baker. Baker was a dump so continued on in the dark to Barstow arriving at 8:45pm.

Started the day at 30 degrees in Flagstaff and it was 80 at Hoover Dam.

Only 375 miles to Lodi so should be easy finish to a great ride. Should end up around 7500 miles in 16 days, coast to coast to coast with Key West thrown in for good measure. Despite all the strange weather going on in the South, we never needed our rain gear, missed the snow in Houston and the tornado's in Florida and rain in San Antonio.

Thanks to Bob for letting me tag along.
