Spring Ride to Cambria - May 3-4

Howdy!

I've just completed preparations for the Spring Ride, Meet, Greet and Eat to Cambria, CA! The dates are Saturday and Sunday, May 3rd & 4th. Not one to mess with a formula that seems to be working, I've worked out arrangements for lodging with the BlueBird Inn (we have the entire facility this year), and dinner will be buffet style at Las Cambritas, where the food is tasty and the margaritas flow like... well, margaritas! Everyone has seemed to like and enjoy both of these places and how they've served us in the past, and they love having us and are looking forward to our merry band visiting them again.

Lodging - The BlueBird Inn - 800-552-5434
http://www.bluebirdmotel.com/

To make reservations for Saturday night, 5/3, please call the BlueBird and tell them you are with the David Taylor BMW Group. They have a variety of room choices and have given us the following pricing -
  • Standard Room, One Queen Bed - $84
  • Standard Room, Two Double Beds - $110
  • Standard Room, One King Bed - $110
  • Standard Room, Two Queen Beds - $120
  • Deluxe Room, One King or Two Queens - $140 (these have garden and creek views, balconies or patios, and fireplaces)
  • Deluxe Suites - One King Bed - $180 (Has separate living room, creek and garden view, fireplace, etc.)
They are taking reservations now, so feel free to sign up! The cut-off date for the rooms and rates will be April 3rd. After that any remaining rooms will be made available to the public and go back to regular price.

Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night at Las Cambritas. We are finalizing the menu but will be able to hold the price at $25 per person, same as last year. Dinner will include a buffet taco bar with chicken, beef, carnitas (new!), veggies, and all the fixings to go with that (chips, salsa, guacamole, cheese, flour and corn tortillas, etc.), as well as soft drinks, tea and coffee with refills. The dinner price includes all of this plus tax and tip. They have a full bar with a great selection of beer, wine and cocktails available for purchase as well. We will have the patio for the night just like we did last year, so we'll have a place to hang out and visit for as long as we want.

Once you get your room reserved please add your name to the attendee list on this thread so I can get a headcount for dinner.

I'm really looking forward to the ride and seeing all of you again, and hopefully meeting some new folks as well! Everyone always seems to have a good time (I know I do, sometimes maybe a little too good ), and as long as we can keep doing that I'm all for it!

I hope you can join us!

Thanks

Hi Joe!

It's basically a low key gathering I put together in Cambria in the spring. I do another one in the fall up the north coast to Fort Bragg. It's not a big organized ride or anything; the idea is to give you an excuse for a ride with a destination with good food and a lot of new friends to meet up with. We always have a lot of fun, the folks at the hotel love us (their son bought a bike last year, we have influenced another ), the dinner is alway fun and top notch, and their bar is well stocked and ready for us when we get there. There may be some folks in your area coming up, and if you want to hook up with one or some ofthem I'm sure they'd love to have you along.

I hope you can join us!

Welcome, Joe. Some of us start out together, some of us meet up somewhere along the way and some of us meet there. One of my best friends is in Carmichael and last year we ended up meeting there. This year we are hoping to meet on his way down.

Eventually, we all just shout out when and where are leaving from and decide if we are going to ride along with each other or not. That's one of the things that I like about the event.

Hope you can join us - it is a great weekend.

I dunno, I heard you guys took unfair advantage of him the night before. Seems like a cheap way of keeping him off your pace.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

I had nothing to do with anyone's condition the night of or the morning after dinner on last year's ride! All I did was come up with the event, get hotel rooms, set up dinner, made sure the bar was stocked, and promoted the hell out of it so folks could come have some fun. Now how could THAT be construed as taking advantage of someone?????

BTW Ken, I don't see your name on the list yet. Aren't you going to come make sure I don't mess with too many people this year? I've always wanted to be bounced from my own party.

Question Re: Spring Ride to Cambria - May 3-4

Where in the heck is Cambria? We might want to play if we knew the way!

Al,

According to Yahoo maps, Cambria is a tad over 1100 miles from Chattaroy.

It's on the California Central Coast about halfway between LA and San Francisco, right about here -

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...=11&iwloc=addr

It's one of my favorite places, and it's a good location to get folks from both ends of the state together. We do get folks from OR, WA, AZ, etc, almost every year, and as Joe points out even Ohio! Come on down, we'd love to have you!

Regarding practice, er um except for a 2k ride last fall the bike has been underutilized for personal reasons, re-doing the whole house. But, I saved enough money on labor that I may be able to add a GSA to the family, we'll see.

Ken,
Joe was talking the ride down where my lack of skills were evident, not the ride back when it was all I could do not to vomit the first 2 hours on the road. Not sure who did me the favor of serving me those horrid jager bombs after 5 beers 2 margaritas and a rum and coke.

Dave,

Let me know if your group riding again, although I think I may head down there a day or 2 early to visit my daughter at SLO. Or stay an extra day on the return.

He may have beat us to Cambria ... but he didn't have half the fun that we did. Besides, Cambria was not the finish line. The moment I passed his sorry butt on an inside corner and disappeared into the twisties, the real race was O-V-E-R!

As for your riding skills ... whatever. I'm still looking forward to riding with you again, and just hanging out. And if you can pickup anything by watching the 4 musketeers carve a few corners, well that's cool too.

Yeah, we'll probably gather up the usual suspects, ride some roads, eat some BBQ, ride some more roads, then order you some shots.... I mean... have some carne asada. Keep an eye out here or send me your email address and I"ll ping you once we think something up.

Re: Spring Ride to Cambria - May 3-4

Well, it looks like we can't make Cambria, as Dayle has a writer's conference that weekend out of state. But I should still be local.

Anyone got a spare bed or willing to split a double room?

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Do you snore?

I currently have a deluxe King but could check into changing to a 2 queen room to accommodate you.

I'd thought about just taking Hazard's room, as from what I hear he doesn't sleep anyway.

Check with Ted, as you guys may be able to work something out.

I went ahead and switched to the 2 queen bed room. Same price as the one I had and now there's an option for you or someone else if needed. So let me know what you decide, and keep a tape recorder running tonight.
