Tioga Pass?

Does anyone know what the road conditions are on top of Tioga Pass. I'm thinking of riding to Las Vegas this Saturday via that route.

TIA

Cheers!

You can check the Caltrans Road Condition website. Just enter your highway number(s) and it will give you the current restrictions, if any. For 120 inside of Yosemite they provide a number to call as well.

Thanks David. Yes I checked the state web site and the road is open but I was looking for more qualitative data (e.g. road wet or dry and if wet, frozen at night?)

Too bad they don't have a remote cam trained on the summit like they do on Donner Pass!

Cheers!

Bob... I'm not sure there is a town to stay in very close to Tioga when you Baconize a tire
I guess you could coast to Lee Vining

Hey Bob,
Probably be a great ride this time of year if you can get over. Keep an eye on the weather, suppose to be a storm blowing through on Saturday.

Sending this message from Reno. The storm is already on its way in. Increasing cloud cover and wind over the past couple hours. The greater issue may well be ass-kicking winds on 395 after you make it over the pass. It was in the low 30s coming over Donner about 7am this morning. Tioga is a couple thousand higher. Lee Vining does not have much in the way of motels but they do have a nice Espresso shop. Turn left on 395. Its on the left side just before the Chevron station. "Latte Da" There is a nice Holiday Inn Express in Bishop a few hours down the road right next to Whiskey Creek Restaurant.

Who knew there was a web cam up there! That link is now in my favorites file. Thanks Dan!

And I always know who to ask about the nearest espresso bar. Thanks Bob!

BTW: She's wearing fresh rubber (and new Ohlins!) so there will be no Baconizing this trip. I'll check the weather once more before I leave tomorrow just to be sure but it's looking good right now. Las Vegas here I come!

Cheers!

Update

Well, I made it over Tioga Pass at 1PM Saturday. Sky was clear and temp was 45 with no wind.

Today I woke up to rain but I was already in Tonopah so no worries.

Now I'm in Las Vegas and since whatever happens here, stays here, I'm not talking!

Cheers!

Snowed in Tahoe, so I'm betting you won't be coming back the same way you went. I'll bet the ride was awesome though!

Glas you made it to Vegas safely, Bob. A few tips -
  • Hit on 16, stay on 17
  • Play all the lines on slots
  • If you tip with $100s, the lap dances get much more interesting
