Thumbs up Expresso to Tahoe Aug 10-12

This is the ride that goes with the Surprise 40th thread.

Expresso Riders invites you for a long weekend up in beautiful Lake Tahoe and Virginia City. We'll be staying Fri and Sat night at the Days Inn in South Lake Tahoe. This location is surrounded by numerous eateries of every stripe including Brewer's Branding Iron Rotisserie BBQ two blocks up and The Brewery at Lake Tahoe right next door. It's close to all the Stateline, NV action plus a pool and spa along with breakfast each morning. If you'd like a massive, mountain style breakfast, Heidi's is right across the street! A group dinner is planned for both Friday and Saturday night or you can strike out on your own or in small groups. I'll post a rally point for anyone interested in a group ride up to the lake on Friday. Let me know if your plans or we'll simply see you there Friday evening!

Saturday will bring numerous riding options in the passes and the pines including a group ride over to old Virginia City, Nevada the resting place of our patron saint, Sheriff Coffee. We'll arrive in time to spend a few hours browsing and lunching along the old boardwalks, giftshops, casinos, and saloons as we take a few steps back in time to the old west haunts of Ben, Adam, Hoss, & Little Joe Cartwright. The plan is to hightail it out town with plenty of time to take the Mt. Rose Highway into Kings Beach and run the west side of Lake Tahoe for some scenic views and perhaps a stop or two on the way back to South Lake Tahoe.(Ehrman Mansion, Vikingsholm Castle, Camp Richardson Marina, Tahoe House Bakery and Gourmet Coffee Shop?) I always enjoy those hairpin turns as well as the views near Emerald Bay! Saturday dinner is planned for Tep's Villa Roma just a short stroll from the motel. Sunday morning we'll head west to Jackson for our "surprise" lunch stop at Bonanza Grill and Bar. Please make your own reservations and add your name to list. Send me a PM with your questions.

It looks like Sturgis is back on and I will be leaving for points east on Friday morning. I should be back in time for Tahoe though. I can't imagine being in or near Sturgis for that long. See ya when I get back.

Hey Dogg, you said it might be on again off again. Glad it went on for you! We'll see you up there on Friday night! Can't wait to hear about Sturgis for 2007.

By the way, I hope everyone has their reservations for the Days Inn as they went to regular summer rack rates with less than 14 days prior. It's at least 50% higher now kind of like airline booking policies.

Not sure if it's any better on price but there's a Super 8 a few doors down. You can use your MOA discount too!

Expresso/40th

Hi Folks
Eileen found out today that she has to go to San Diego next Friday so it looks like we will have to cut the ride a day short and come up Saturday.
We have reservations at Days Inn so I guess we will meet you all there Saturday.

Talking Counting down to Friday...

Forecast for the ride in South Lake Tahoe is the upper 70s to low 80s during the day and mid-40s overnight. Sacramento will be in the low 90s for Friday's departure.

The group rally point for Friday morning is 0930 at "It's a Grind" located at Twin Cities Road and Hwy 99. We'll coffee up with a departure by 1015 with tanks full and bladders empty. Plan on a little sightseeing and a lunch stop on the way up. We'll arrive at the Days Inn about 1500, right about check-in time. Did I mention the Brewery at Lake Tahoe is right next door?

If obligations have you coming up later, we'll leave the light on for you. If it's after dark we might be that noisy group over by the jaccuzi.

This is our third weekend ride for 2007. If you can't make this one rest assured we are not done yet!

Great time

Just got home after a great and exciting week end. Lots of new stories to tell, loss of another final drive on one of the LTs.

40 in attendance for Mia's surprise B-day party in Jackson on the way home.

I will let those who had the exciting parts tell their tales and leave it at that for now.

Mia and I want to thank all of you who either rode the three days or came up for the party for taking time to show you love and appreciation for my lady and welcoming her into her 40's in style as only two wheeler can!!

Thanks again from Mia

Waiting to see the pictures!!!

Great Weekend

Steve
Thanks for setting up a GREAT weekend ride for those lucky enough to make the ride. This was a wonderful wat to celebrate Mia's birthday and to be with others doing the same. Once again thanks for setting up the ride and party, sorry we couldn't make the Friday portion of the ride, but very glad we made the Sat.-Sun. part.
Thanks Again

We gotta do this again...

After everyone of these, I'm ready to do it all again. This was a blast, despite all the mechanical's and near collision experiences (was that or four or five point buck???).

My sincerest thanks to everyone one who made the weekend one heck of a mini-vacation for my missus and I. We cannot believe how lucky we are to have fallen into a group of like minded people like the Expresso Riders.

A special note of thanks to Steve and Bob... a masterful job as always. As soon I can get past a days worth of hacking, I'll post pictures...

Again, thanks to all... AND, to our beloved "Caboose" Mia and to lovely Renna... Happy Birthday!

What's amazing is how each of these weekend rides has been so different and each with a unique set of memories for different reasons. The jacuzzi bar under the mountain stars was a winner but that Saturday night dinner is running pretty close to the top where my mechanical is pretty close to the bottom. Yet the rescue and recovery was another wonder to behold. I think Mia is still stunned 24 hours later from her surprise and I still can't believe Fifi finally made her appearance! Where has she been hiding all this time?

A great trip, my friends. On to the Chalet View in October!

Thumbs up 40 - and still GREAT Curves! he he

Mia can still handle the curves after the big 4-0!

What a great weekend. Only two near-misses (deer for Bob, and Porsche for Mark). One dead final drive...

Oh well, the wine was good, and nobody got hurt. Can't wait until the next one - PLUS my FD will never fail. Expresso Riders have had 2 failures now, so the Odds are on my side.

The crew arrives in Virginia City, NV. We went past the Red Light District; here's Jeannie, Renna, Mia, and Vicki "prospectin'". Steve, Denise, Bruce, and Mia wait for a light to change.

Here's a pic of Mia and her son Dustin in the twisties just south of Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe; she's still got the curves! Then another with Steve in front of Mark and Vicki.

And then - an unplanned stop! And as a bonus pic - just to make you East Coasters eat your hearts out, a pic of Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe!
