CCR Express III

Got a new to me trailer yesterday. John and I went up to Reno/Sparks to look at a trailer.

The owner told me he was going to be around all weekend. We got there and were greeted by an answering machine. Waited about 15 minutes or so and headed south on 395 towards gardnerville to look at another trailer. Just as we get about 15 miles or so, the guy calls me. We turn around and proceed to meet up and follow him to look at the trailer.

I ended up buying it. It's a 7x14 tandem axle enclosed Haulmark trailer with some very important upgrades. Namely:

3/4" plywood floor
3/8" side walls
3 E-tracks - one on each side of the floor and one in center
2 Pingle wheel chocks plus mounting plate
Cam lock side door
Twin cam lock ramp door
Electric brakes

Towed it back to Sacramento without any issues. I will need to buy:

A spare tire and wheel combo
A tongue lock

I'll probably end up adding cabinets up high on the walls for storage.

Overall in good shape. Some scrapes from branches etc and a few small dings. One cut in the right front corner of the trailer from something hitting the trailer there. Will need to fix that by adding a piece of sheet metal or?

I know what I'll be doing the next couple of days...

Peeling decals off the trailer. Both sides and back have vinyl decals. I spent a couple of hours last night and made some progress. My heat gun quit working after a while (overheated I think).

Thanks John for going up there with me and checking the trailer also.

Forgot to mention that we ent back down 395 and up over 50 and down to Sacramento. So a complete loop of 80 to Reno, 395 to Carson, 50 to South Lake Tahoe and down to Sacramento.

Truck and trailer did well. Overall mileage was a respectable 13.5 mpg (trailer empty) pulling the trailer up the mountains and back down. Traffic was light and we did not hold anyone up behind us.

Hey John:

I managed to back it in on the driveway. Took several minor adjustments and now the left wheels are on the concrete too. I had to err on the left side so I wouldn't take out the water spigot or hit the side of the house.

Good news is my neighbor accross the street said I could park it behind her garage. Access is from the alley and she has a 20'x15' pad that is not used. Cool beans.

BTW, there were more yellow jackets in the tongue latch area. I got the Raid out and killed them all.

Let's have some pics...of the trailer, not the yellow jackets

Not this time since it will be parked in an open area and I don't want anyone trying to break in thinking there is something valuable.

Eventually, I will try to find a secure place for it. Out of sight, out of mind.

Raffy,
I have a tongue lock for ya. Sitting in my garage taking space.
It's a 2.0" Fulton "Gorilla Guard" w/1 round key, never used. I can bring it Wed., most likely. I think I tried to give it to Ted once, but he didn't need it. It's probably from my last boat, a 17 ft. Bayliner FB that I sold in 2000.

Finally, a taker. I might have other stuff from my trailering days, RVing days, boating days and collecting junk days, too. If I don't use it in a year, I get rid of it. That's my new policy.

I finished taking the decals off the left side and back of the trailer. Still have the right side to do. That will be tomorrow evening (if i don't go to dinner) or Thursday evening.

Went to DMV this morning and got a temporary 30 day permit until I clear up a signature verification issue with the previous owner's bank lien release.

All the decals are off now. I just need to clean up the residue on the right side.

Moved the trailer behind my neighbor's garage. Plenty of space and it's free. However, I suspect we will have to watch her kids more often.
