BIG SEND-OFF For Doug and Dell

Dell & Doug's Arctic Circle Cancer Awareness Ride - Saturday, June 16th 10 a.m.
Come send them off! Enjoy a continental breakfast at A&S BMW Motorcycles starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 16th and maybe ride for a few miles the first day with them. The route will head from A&S thru Lassen ending for the first night in Alturas.

Be sure to visit www.ascycles.com/arctic_circle to keep tabs on them throughout the trip!

I know we have 2 other threads on this, but I'd love to see a ton of folks come pat them on the back! They'd love the show of support!

Already coming:
1. Nathan
2. Hal
3. Ted (I'll be there for the send off. Can't ride though, gotta work)
4. Raffy

(other links w/ more info on the ride)

Will you guys post this on other forums that you're members of? Liek the ADVRider one, etc? I'm buying TONS of food for breakfast, and I'll need folks to eat it up.

Oh, and it'll be cool to wave at Doug & Dell.

What time are people arriving? I can't stay for the send off, since my son planned his $&*#!! wedding that day, but I'd like to do a drive-by!

I've sent the article and websites to my 1st cousins Cindy and Mike. Both from Maine. Cindy has just received news of breast cancer and Susanne, Mike's wife, also. Both are just starting chemotherapy as I write this. They think it is early in each case. You two are definately an inspiration. No pressure here. And I mean that too. Just preparing and starting the trip is probably the hardest part. Get going and find your flow. And if the flow is slow or no go, then that's just as good.

Thanks for the support and positive spirit. It is reassuring to have all of you pulling for us and to know help is only a call away.

Got to admit to some nervousness regarding this trip but that will go away once on the way. There will be many unexpected challenges but we feel as prepared as we can and just have to DO IT.

The route is not cast in stone and I know we will need to revise it due to weather and time, but the goal is and will remain the ARTIC CIRCLE.

Doug & Dell,

Unfortunately, I have a prior commitment on the 16th, and I won't be at the A&S send-off. But I'll be rooting for you guys, and I want to hear every detail when you get back.

I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we will be living vicariously though your, hopefully somewhat regular, ride reports.

Thumbs up They're off!

After a 75 minute launch delay and a trip to lumber yard, Dell and Doug set their compass to the northeast and high-tailed it out of Dodge with an escort of about a dozen riders. Both Gents had smiles on their faces and were clearly in search of some bugs for their teeth and I am confident they will find some big ones where they are headed! I would anticipate the details of the delay being posted on the blog in the next day or so. Quite a nice send-off. I would estimate 50-60 well wishers on hand!

Just got a call from Doug. They made it half way over Logans Pass and then found out that the pass was closed. Had to go back around and do plan B. They are now in Cranbrook, British Columbia and hope to make Banff Alberta tomorrow. He sounds "pumped" still and says that they are having a great time.

Hi everyone,

I found two loonies which gives me less than 20 minutes on this hotel computer. I just wanted to say on behalf of Doug and myself thanks for following our trip. I try to post each day but frankly I am really tired and so I keep it short.

I will meet Doug at 8am to get the new tires on our bikes. If you read the blog you know that I have a gasoline leak on my bike. Doug and removed the tank and saw where the leak is coming from. I hope the Honda guys where we are getting the tires can fix it. This morning there was a small amount of gas on the ground under my bike but the tank still had plenty of gas.

I have really enjoyed riding and being with Doug for the last 3,000 miles. However, I will save some of the good Doug stories for when we return because they are probably not appropriate for the blog

OK must run because my loonies are about to expire.
