Stoneyford Adventure Ride - June 9th

The Richmond Ramblers are putting on a DS Adventure Ride this Saturday in Stoneyford. Here's the info http://www.richmondramblersmc.org/

Basically a 150 mile day ride with a BBQ at the end - Sign ups are Friday night from 6-9 and Saturday morning 7-9. Listed as easy Dirt & Gravel Roads.

Currently Nathan and myself are planning to go, maybe go up after work on Friday to sign up and see whats going on, spend the night in Williams and get Dinner at the Maxwell Inn. Whether we go up on Friday or Saturday we can meet anyone wanting to attended at the start on Saturday morning at the sign ins.

Cool - As of right now we've made plans to go up Friday afternoon/evening and make it to Stoneyford between 6-7 to sign in then go get Dinner. If you want you can meet us in Stoneyford about that time.

I'll give you a call when we leave Sacramento.......

Ok. I'll split from Napa a bit early. I haven't been on 16 this year, I think I'll fix that tomorrow. Then maybe check-out Leesville-Lodoga Rd on the way to Stonyford.

Go ahead and call my cell when you leave, don't know how reception will be. Otherwise I'll just look for you guys in Stonyford sometime after 6.

Friday

I left Napa at the crack of 12:30. I rode out SR 128 to Winters, up Rail Road Avenue to SR 16 where I took that through the Capay Valley, and along Cache Creek. That’s always a nice ride. At SR 20 I turned east and rode into the town of Colusa; I grabbed a photo op for an AMA tour I’m running this year, and a tank of gas. I backtracked on SR 20 to Leesville Road. Here’s where it got interesting.

A few photos from today:

On the way up there -- Leesville Road off of SR 20

The view from up there.

Well, okay...if I have too...

When you get to a fork in the road, take it.

At Stonyford. Dan, Nathan, & John waiting for the old retired guys from the Richmond Ramblers to get around to starting registration.

After dinner in Maxwell. The last I saw of this motley trio they were heading back to their motel for some sleep before the rally tomorrow. I raced back to Napa, in the dark, through a 30 mile bug storm. Yuck. I had to stop twice to wash off my visor and headlamp.

Well, I made it back - Nathan was right with me on the freeway until he peeled off up I80. Dan was traveling a little slower on the KTM down I5 so he should be back in soon.
I'm covered head to toe with sweat and dust, I'm sore most places - not sure of the places I'm not sore but I'm sure I'll find a few. But I feel Great! Got to travel a lot of back back roads that were new to me and the scenery was outstanding. We had a oooops, a flat tire and bee sting but nothing to major and we all finished the 150 mile adventure ride.

Time for a shower and some dinner - Pictures later. Man I love the GS!

It eas a great ride- I made it home too.

I made it home. The KLR is happy at about 5,000 to 5,500 RPM which puts me down the superslab around 70-75 mph. It's too stressful whipping it to keep up with the big V-Twins.

In the dirt, another story. The KLR was fantastic.

So we had one minor fall (Nathan), one flat rear tire (me) and one bee sting (me).

That's why it's called adventure touring!

A few more pics

Here's a few more pictures!

The bugs on the helmet (Nate posted one also) were accumulated in just 8 miles riding between Maxwell and Williams on the frontage road along the rice fields. YUCK!

I thought my offer to ride in a support role was quite generous.
I think Nathan is still mad at me about the whole "Yard Sale" thing.
