Cambria Weekend Ride - May 5 & 6

Wel, here's proof it's never too early to plan your spring rides. I've locked in the hotel in Cambria for the weekend of May 5-6 (Sat & Sun). I'm still negotiating rates and should have that locked in sometime in the next week. I'm spending a week down there over Christmas so I'll get the restaurant, bar, cops ambulances, preacher's daughters, etc., prepared for the invasion.

Mark your calendars now, more details to follow!

Hmm, he didn't seem to post it in the Ohio forum.

Sounds like fun, David. It's on the calendar. Keep us informed of the details.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

I gotta say, David, I'm not too sure about that new beard in your avatar. I think you need a serious shave.

Kari says she likes it, but she's not too keen on the penchant I've developed for chewing on bamboo .

Kidding aside, I actually took that picture at the Memphis Zoo on my cross country trip this year coming back from CCR. They have a pair they are trying to mate, and I was at the glass enclosure snapping a few pics of them. I was kneeling down by the glass and he walked over and stuck his face up to mine; we were about 18 inches apart. I popped the camera up and snapped that just before he walked back over to climb a tree. I was really surprised when he did it, but he just seemed as curious as I was.

No kids with me that weekend so count me in (most likely 2 of us!).

Would it be at the same motel (Blue Bird Inn)???

Yes, we'll be at the BlueBird again. I have to finalize room rates and such so don't call yet. I'll have an update in the next few days.

OK Dave,

Spring fever is what it's all about. I made a comment about the thread, and Ellen said to let you know I can join ya'll this time.

Mebbe I need to 'mention' rides more often...

For the record, I had nothing to do with any elevator incidences. I've only heard the rumors.

Well, this sounds interesting and looks to be an excellent day ride from my new digs. So is this something that you put together, David, or is this part of a larger rally? Inquiring minds like to know.

Joel,
We've done this for two or three years. Not sure, the event itself seems to induce memory lapses. ;-))

Just something I threw together as a chance for folks to get a nice ride in, meet and greet some folks they don't get to see very often, and an excuse to eat good food and drink some beer.

Joel, if you want to come and are planning on going through L.A. let me know. We can hook up and ride together from L.A. to Cambria.

Thanks, Gilles. But I probably won't be going near LA. Looks like 40->58 through Bakersfield is probably the call.

And after Bakersfield you want to take 58 from Buttonwillow to Santa Margarita as well. Great road with bunch of twists and whoop-de-doos, foloowed by all out straights (with a couple of 90 degree 20mph turns, watch out), followed by more sweepers & twisties. From there up 101 50 41 or 46 over to the coast and up to Cambria. 41 is more curvy but gets quite a bit of traffic. 46 is more a straight shot but isn't nearly as heavily traveled.

I hope you can make it; it's been a long time since we tipped a glass together!

Thanks for the tips, David. The whole route looks really appealing.
And yes indeed, it's been too long since we tipped a glass.
I still need to clear this by "the boss", so wish me luck.

Just tell her you're hanging out with me for the weekend. No, wait.... maybe that's not such a good idea.
