It was a great day for a ride!
I headed out from A&S at 10am, a little chill in the air but not too bad. Tooled on up I-80 to Colfax then cut over to Nevada City via 174. The road looked dry but I had a little pucker moment when both tires slipped a little in a corner. Didn't see anything then but on the way back I saw a line of small gravel in one of the turns, the gravel was the same grey color as the road.
Once past Nevada City on Hwy 49 I though I would go take a look at the road and bridge Dell just mentioned a few days back. I went down to the bridge but no further, ran out of pavement and I was on the S. I headed back toward 49 but saw a few other paved roads, so I went exploring. One little road was called airport rd, it went up a hill, one lane an ended in the sticks - no airport????? I turned around and started to head back when I came upon a marker about a Sheriff that Died in 1896 chasing down a Highway Man. The Marker was put up in 1936 and it still looks new, nice little find, can't believe that many people ever get back there.
I continued to explore all the paved roads I could find in that little backwoods area, found a dry lake among the pineneedle laced roads but not much else. Along about 1pm or so I headed back to Colfax, then over to Forest Hill rd via Iowa Hill rd. Iowa Hill road is mostly one lane road through some very primitive area. Lots of good riding, it crosses the American river and heads through the old gold town of Iowa Hill. I stopped in a got an Ice Tea, talked with the locals, was offered a puppy. Seem one of the town dogs, there's more dogs than people there, had just had a litter. The little guys were cute but I managed to get out of town without one. Twisted and turned my way to Forest Hill road, the buzzed back to A&S via the cut off to the American river, hwy 49 up to Auburn and I-80.
A day of riding beats shopping or working any day.
