Re: Having Fun With Videos

I like em but I do have one bit of advice that I got on my videos from a friend that works at Sony Pictures... if you want to get people to watch, make your videos around 2 -3 minutes long. Most scenes should be about 7 seconds. It is amazing the story you can tell in that time and it will keep the attention of our short attention span society.

After taking his advice I reworked a 5 minute video of bike riding in Bali to just over a minute and this is what I came up with:

Some of the most asinine things people do are typically preceded by the two words "Watch this."

Re: Having Fun With Videos

Nice videos gentlemen! Scotty, when you said bikes, I thought it would be a motorcycle trip. I saw Miss Jessica and Ted.

I like your suggestion Scotty about video length. I have a 7 minute video shot from my Quad Copter with a GoPro Black that I really need to whittle down to an acceptable length.

Here it is right now... Shorter version to come.

Re: Having Fun With Videos

Nathan, I like the cam mounted on the helmet; give great perspective IMO, and a steady cam.

Here's one I did on the Dragon a couple weeks ago. A few scenes of a minute or so married together. Takes 14-15 minutes to run the Dragon, but I cut the vids in half. I think I will try the shorter snippets idea from ScottyD.

Only made a couple so far, with the GoPro Hero 3+. Great little cam.

Hal since you are playing with quadcopters now I HAVE to share two videos done with the DJI that I found remarkable(same guy made both):

Again note the length of these videos compared to what I bet was a bunch of great footage.

Re: Having Fun With Videos

I use iMovie for most projects unless they are something more complicated like my scuba videos, for those I use Final Cut Pro. If you are using a PC I would suggest Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas if you like to do higher end stuff or for a nice inexpensive editing suite I suggest Sony Studio Suite.

Re: Having Fun With Videos

I just use the Video Editor that came with the GoPro. Very basic (and somewhat unreliable - likes to crash), but with patience you can make a nice "home movie" style of vid. As I branch out, I may try something different.

Re: Having Fun With Videos

Drats... you're making me covet a GS! Nice videos!

Would that Iowa Hill Road be doable on a LT? It looked like rather good road surface from what I saw, but admittedly I didn't watch the entire video. If so, might be a good little day ride for the wife and I since we are in Oroville. Could stop and see a friend in the Peardale area on the way over and back.

Just made a 4 minute video of our day puttin' around in the back country of Downieville area. It looks best if you switch it to 720p or 1080p.

Re: Having Fun With Videos

Your video is very nice and I liked the music. I sure would hate to slip on one of those steep cliffs!!!

Looking at my video again I think I could have made it about a minute shorter and conveyed the same experience so hopefully it didn't bore you.

The Forest Roads is another good one. Just the right length and amount of footage to let the viewer experience of the your day and keep up the interest. I think this is very constructive sharing for us.
