Redwood forest, Arcata, CA

I'm considering taking a trip with a couple of people here in T'son to Days Inn And Suites Arcata Ca where will stay from the 6th till the 10th. I've never seen Redwood Forests which is the main reason for the trip.

Looking for any suggestions on where to go during my time there?

Thanks
bob

If it were me I would plot a route to the Rock Store then on to Neptunes Net at LA county line on Hwy 1 for sea food. Then on to Jalama Beach , nice little side ride off 1 / 101. Then continue North on 1 / 101 to see elephant seals near Cambra.
1 / 101 is a must do , see and smell.

Bob, Just about any of the roads there are going to be great.
Here is a Thread from our ride out there last year with some roads listed.

Re: Redwood forest, Arcata, CA

You don't have to go all the way up to Arcata to see some big redwoods. Two roads I recommend is the Avenue of the Giants which parallels US101 from exit 645 near Phillipsville. The more north you go the more redwoods you see. Take it for about 20 miles to the turnoff for Honeydew. Then it gets real lush as you travel west towards the Lost Coast on Bull Creek Flats Road which becomes Mattole Road through Petrolia then down to the most pristine California beach accessible by paved road. From there continue on Mattole Road north and inland and over a couple of small ranges where you will eventually drop down into the small Victorian town of Ferndale. That's usually where I stay when I'm in the neighborhood. Arcata is about 30 more miles north if you're set on getting there.

Good luck and enjoy!
