Anyone been in touch with Ken Meese on his IBA rally ride? It ends tomorrow so the secrets are few.

Re: Meese Iba (over)

Ken's rally is over this evening in the town of Fredricksburg VA. Ken is OK and will be returning home. More information will come later when facts are known. It sure was a good ride while it lasted.

Re: Meese Iba

Damn!

I'm sorry to hear that... A lot of people were pulling for Ken and it sounded like he was up there in serious contention again.... Hope that he's OK and can't wait for his report. I still can't imagine what it must be like to ride for 11 days and average 1,000 miles a day. Simply amazing tenacity..

Re: Meese Iba

OH NO, not again! A repeat of riding a huge ride, then an accident so close to the end. At least the important partis that he is OK this time. Gotta be heart breaking to go through all that and not quite finish.

This was the last post by his wife. Sounds positive!

Home stretch…

July 11, 2013 Posted by Dayle Dermatis

Well, it looks as though yesterday’s update was gobbled up by the Internet gremlins. Oh well. Sadly, I can’t remember what I rambled about.

Wait, I remember one thing: Ken hit the worst weather of his life. Which is saying something, given that during last year’s 10-in-10 rally he rode through a hurricane. He said it was like being inside of a dishwasher (one assumes without soap). He even considered pulling over…and lying down, away from the bike in case it fell over. He was able to press on, but yowza.

(Anyone who asks why I don’t do this with him can refer back to that paragraph. ;-) )

Anyway. The rally ends tomorrow morning, no later than 8 am Eastern time (after that, there are penalties). Earlier this evening Ken bagged the big bonus he was shooting for, and then stopped for a much-needed nap. He’ll press on once he’s slept for a bit.

We won’t know the winner until tomorrow night’s banquet. I will possibly have gnawed off all of my fingernails by then.

Well Crap! Since you said Ken's OK I'm hoping it was just a break down and not an accident.

Re: Meese Iba

From Bob Higdon's report this morning:

"Ken Meese has again ended his Iron Butt Rally in a hospital. He crashed out
early this morning on I-95 north of Richmond, Virginia. Details remain sketchy as
this report goes out, but his condition is not believed to be serious."

Sure is disappointing, two IBR's in a row, crashing out right at the end.

Re: Meese Iba

Rumor has it that he broke his collar bone near Richmond Va, not saying that's what happened but it is what's being said here at the Marriot, at least it does not sound serious but he will be flying home with a DNF behind his name for the 2nd straight rally. I can't imagine the disappointment that he and his wife are feeling right now, damn I'm bummed out and I don't know him personally. I'll be at the banquet tonight and am now rooting for John Coons and Eric bray for 2 and 3 spots but for number one I'm rooting for Wendy to win it all. We all know women are much tougher then men so I have to root for her. I wonder if she wins how these guys egos will hold up being trounced by an awesome rider who just happens to be a woman. Something tells me that everyone of them know her capabilities and they will give big congrats wherever she finishes.

Ouch, he was less than an hour from finishing. That has got to hurt.
