Hats off to ODFW

ODFW is Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
On Sunday, the little doe in the attached photo showed up for lunch with what appears to be a poultry feeder attached to her front hoof. She showed up again today (Tuesday) with it still attached. I called ODFW and explained what I had, and asked if they could help, or at least direct me to someone who could.
Within an hour, 2 of their people showed up with a tranquilizer gun and spent the better part of 3 hours trying to knock her down to help her.
Unfortunately, for the time being, the score is Doe - 1, ODFW - 0, but they asked me to set out the chow bucket and try to get her to come back in for round 2 tomorrow.
I was just really darned pleased at their response. Really appreciated their attitude and concern. Kind'a cool in my book.

Nice post, especially in this day when public employees are whipped around a lot.

Re: Hats off to ODFW

Had to post an update. Today, Wednesday, 9 days after ODFW's first try, they finally nailed her. We coaxed her in with feed, then had the biologist sneak in the back side of our property, come through the house, and shot her with a tranquilizer dart through our bedroom window.
Took 6 minutes to knock her down, then they brought her back to my yard to remove the feeder. Was a great experience, and I'm going to have to write a letter to ODFW thanking them for the help.
Her cut isn't deep and should heal up fine. After she woke up, she took off like she'd been shot in the ass by a dart Didn't even limp. All in all, a great experience for us, and had to share.
