Smile New BMW 1600

BMW of Western Oregon has a new K 1600 demo on the floor at their shop in Tigard as of this week. FYI.

Re: New BMW 1600

They had the unveiling last Sat. It looks great and they are doing test rides. You are advised to call and schedule one if you are interested.

Re: New BMW 1600

Very nice bike! I was, however surprised that the seat was so low. I could easily flat-foot it when it was on the center stand. OK, so I'm 6'5". Tall folks have to ride too. I wonder it the seat can be adjusted up or if there are other ways to make an adjustment. My knees started bothering me right away. I'm sure that those that aren't as tall will love the lower seat.

Re: New BMW 1600

I am 5 ft 10 in and with the bike off the center-stand, I easily was flatfooted! It didn't feel the weight but I am used to the LT. Its a nice bike, with lots of farkles but is a lot of $$$$$.

According to A&S, all of the demo bikes have the low seat. The optional "higher" seat gains you another 3 - 3-1/2" I believe. I would need to lower the pegs, even with the higher seat, as well as devising some highway pegs.

Re: New BMW 1600

The GTL in Vegas came with the low seat as well and they didn't order the taller seat so it feels like you are sitting on the ground.

Re: New BMW 1600

From this post in this thread over in the K1600GT/GTL forum:

There are four different seat combinations (2 one-piece and 2 two-piece). All of these seats will fit either the GT or GTL.

BMW K 1600 GT
31.89/32.68" (810/830mm) standard
30.71/31.50" (780/800mm) optional rider seat incl. pillion passenger seat
30.71" (780mm) special accessory seat, single-section
29.53" (750mm) special accessory seat, single-section

BMW K 1600 GTL
29.53" (750mm) standard
30.71" (780mm) optional seat, single-section
30.71/31.50" (780/800mm) special accessory rider seat incl. pillion passenger seat
31.89/32.68" (810/830mm) special accessory rider seat incl. pillion passenger seat

So the difference between the Standard GT seat and the Standard GTL seat is 2.36" (60mm) with the GT seat in the Low position, or 3.15" (80mm) in the High position.

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...
