Red River

The subject of Red River came up in the FAILED Dooger's run and so I thought that I'd provide this:

http://www.lightningcustoms.com/redriverrun.html

The Dates are May 27 to 30, 2011.

I'd love to make this rally but it will probably have to wait another year.

Re: Red River

I think that Rango's Red River Roundup takes place before the big Memorial Day Rally. I think we should be seeing an anouncement very soon. Seems like the year I went it was in mid May. It is a great time and if I remember correctly, the trip only requires you to ride on one half of your front tire. Isn't that right John?

Re: Red River

Art, Did you sell your bike and buy a Harley? That rally for the posers. The real rally (Rango's) is usually the week before that one. You should try it sometime. Great roads, Both paved and for you GS guys unpaved.
Dan, It sure does seem like John has his share of issues when leaving the NW. Must be that government tracking system they implanted in him......

Gotcha on the Rally. Not having been, I just assumed that since everyone was talking about the Red River Rally it was the one the presents itself when you Google Red River Rally. I've been to that area before but in my truck when I lived/worked in Albuquerque . It does look like a great area to explore on 2 wheels (both on and off road).

John, I think what Brian was inferring is that you have problems when you DO leave the NW and that it might be because of some clandestine tracking system that 'the government' installs on there employees.

Did I get that correct Brian?

I think I should just quit Nike and try to go to all of the Rally's. Anyone want to join me?

Art, You got the gist of it, I was also (Joking) about the bird incident, The fuel pump incident, and the tire incident.... All on the road somewhere leaving the NW.

Red face Re: Red River

OK gang, calming down now I guess. I totally missed Dan's comment about my tire in the post prior to Brian's. No Avon Storms on the next Red River ride!!! Can't believe I had almost forgotten about that episode. Tks to dab for the company on that not so great ride home that weekend!

Soon as I win the Lotto I'll be ready to join ya on those Rallys forever Art!

Let's see, Art - if I had any flexibility with my job, I'd join you. Wait a minute, I'm in! I'd consider the Red River this year if anybody is up for it. You guys that went a couple of years ago - did you camp or hotel it? How many miles from home to Red River?

Re: Red River

Denny,
We of course take the scenic route thru the mountains and twisties as much as possible. That way the mileage from your place would be in the 15-1600 range I believe.I have done it in two days each way, But 3 days would be more enjoyable. Its still a bit cold at night in the high country that time of year. So, Camping maybe tough. There is affordable lodging along the way. Rooms at the lodge in Red River are pretty cheap with our discount considering the amenities provided. Then there are the Rango onion burgers and green chili breakfast burritos in Taos. its a must!

Smile Re: Red River

Thanks, Brian - I'm considering it. I used to live at Great Sand Dunes National Monument near Alamosa, CO so am familiar with that country. I've also been considering a border-to-border ride and would consider heading down to Douglas, AZ after the Red River to get on Hwy 191 and head north to the Canadian border for the return trip. Let's keep the ball rolling about this one - any other interested parties for the trip down?

BTW - I chuckled at your description of Lake Stevens drivers!!
