Wayward Traveler

So I'm heading back north next week. Have to leave the LT home, as it just doesn't do well with predicted snow showers.

I'll be up from Monday the 20th through Wednesday the 1st. I figure we can catch a dinner or two somewhere in there.

Suggestions for dates and/or places?

Ken,
Were glad to have you coming back up for a spell. I sure we can get together for some grubb somewhere. I'll try and keep the calender clear. I've been riding to work the last couple of days. Its been in the twenties! So far no black ice!

We'll be around most of your stay Ken, so I'm sure we can find a place for dinner. Even without assistance form other wayward travelers down south!!
Will Dayle be accompanying you, or is this a solo trip?

Solo trip this time. Since they waited until the last minute to confirm dates (as usual) the flights are expensive. I did push it off until Wednesday the 22nd, which saved $200.

Of course, if Brian rides down to join us for dinner, I'm gonna feel really bad about leaving the bike home. Can't we get chains for the LT?

Brian,

If you really want to head that far down, I'm OK with it. Does it make sense to shoot for the weekend then?

Find me some chains that will fit the BT020s and I'm there.

It's come to the point that I really hate to make flight reservations anymore, unless there's an ocean involved. But since the snow flurries are predicted for Hillsboro itself, that kinda kills that idea. I don't suppose I could call in sick to my customer due to weather. Maybe I should've put that in my contract.

I even thought about heading up the coast, and then just renting a car for a couple of days in Hillsboro. Or just stopping in Redding or somewhere and crossing the pass in a car, or putting the LT in a rental truck to get over the mountains. Believe me, I covered all the possibilities.

But don't worry. I'll have several more trips up later in the spring. And if it gets nice this weekend, I'm sure I could just call on Ernie. Just to help a friend, you understand. I hate to see his poor bike just sitting while he recuperates.

So, how is Saturday looking for everyone? Should be Mostly Cloudy, though we all know that can change quick enough. I'd like to stick to maybe downtown Portland or slightly east, so that Ernie & Pauline can join us this time. Either Lunch or Dinner is fine by me, depending if we want to keep it daylight and also give Brian a chance to join us if he wants.

Maybe we could even buy Jeff Mitchell a piece of birthday cake (if they have that at h00ters ).

Ideas, suggestions, comments?

Sounds reasonable Ken. I say we go for lunch just to give Brian time to make it home in daylight. Could be a late lunch though, so he wouldn't need to be up at the crack of dawn to make it down here!
I suppose you'll offer to give Ernie's LT a little exercise too?
On a different note, did you get my PM on the gloves? Just curious.

Oh, Ernie and I are already talking. I offered to take him on his own bike, but for some reason he doesn't want to ride on the back.

I'll bring the gloves up so you can try them on. If you like 'em, they're yours. If not, I have another guy who may be interested. I still wish they fit me better, as they're really nice gloves.

What was that place in Vancouver we had dinner at after the Tacoma tech session? That might cut Brian's trip down slightly, plus people can either take 205 or 405 up depending on where they're coming from.

Cool

Yeah Ken, that would work fine for everyone. Was there recently, but can't recall the name! Don't worry though, I put a request for the name in to our Vancouver connection: "Reelman" (Dan). Hopefully he will get back with the name.

Now hit the hay buddy! That's what I'm fixin to do.

Hello gentlemen,
Do not plan your event around me, I may have to work saturday. Will not know for a day or two. Most likely though. If I work I can probably make it down for dinner.(I do have headlights to guide me home in case of darkness) If I don't work I can probably make it for lunch or dinner. I am looking foward to seeing you all again and I feel the need to buy Ernie and medicinal beverage or two to ensure a swift recovery!

Talking Hey Brian! Or anyone!

If you think you're working Saturday, would during the week work better than the weekend for you? Or maybe Sunday? How about everyone else out there for scheduling? Lets talk a little more.

I am sure we will have several chances to get together in the next week or two. I should be available any night for dinner except this thursday and friday. If we get caught up at work I'll be open to anything sat or sun. I wouldnt count on that though. Billigans looks great.

On the Road Again

I'm flying out of town on Sunday, but there will be lots of RTE's so don't plan around me. I am really looking forward to the riding season this year and yes, commuting in February is impressive Brian. Any interest in Alaska in August?

Dan,
I have been thinking about your trip to Alaska this summer. It is a liitle to early to commit to anything just yet. I hate backing out of things unless absolutely necessary. I am also thinking about a few ca trips as well as the long way to Nova Scotia, A NM trip.and so on....... If I only had another 8 weeks of vacation. We'll keep in touch about it. I'll get more info from you the Next time we do a rte or tech session together

Reservations

Ken,

I don't believe they take reservations unless you have a group of eight or more. It usually isn't a problem on Saturday night. Friday night is a little busier, but I have never waited for more than 5 - 10 minutes.

Brian,

Thanks for the reply. I'm just plugging the Alaska idea once in a while as a reminder. Yes, if the working stiffs only had a extra month or two of vacation.

Time to revisit my retirement plan.....

If Pauline is driving, you can have a macro-brew! I hear it's great therapy for sore muscles.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

7pm, I'll be there. Just need to figure out a route. Last time a detour to the coast cost me. i wish it were warm enough to route through eastern washington....
I am glad I was running late to work this morning. I was going to take the bike. Got halfway to work and the streets turned into an ice rink. ESP and antiskid are really nice to have. I was just watching every else slide around.
My buddy rode his GT in this morning, made it safe and sound. Well maybe he is not so sound... See ya all at 7pm

Can anyone attend this soiree? It looks like I can get home without running into ice on the way to the coast so 116 miles doesn't sound unreasonable for a good dinner with such fine folks. If it's ok with all of you I'll be there.

Come on down Jim! Why we even have the subject of the thread who is up from Cal, so why on earth would it not be open to someone from the host state? The more the merrier, friendship and a common interest are what it's all about. No secret handshakes so far!

One other note for you Jim: If you can't make any of these trips on the Bike, come anyway! We still want to meet people who share our love of Biking, even if they get there by other means, as some of us have already done! We sure would not cancel out on the get together if the weather was unsafe for the Bike, or the Bike was down for maintenance!

Now if we were talking about heading out on a decent road trip that would be different! But this is right here in our own backyard! For some of us it's like commuting to work. Not a real big deal, but still fun to do if conditions warrant!

Hope this helps.

Dinner and a Movie?

We're thinking of taking in a movie after dinner. It depends on whether or not we are feeling up to staying out that late, but we'll kick it around at dinner and make a decision then.

The movie is "The Worlds Fastest Indian" Click here for show times in Vancouver.

Made it home in one piece and I didn't buy any more freeway real estate! We had a great showing tonight. The food was good as well. If I were only twenty years younger I would have asked the waitress out for a moonlight LT ride! It was great seeing the gang and meeting Jim. Next time we need to get a round table so we get to talk to everyone!!! Lesson for today..... Mount the radar detector and don't eat to much. I was so stuffed I couldn't steer the bike for the first 50 miles. I will be sleeping good tonight!!! Till the next time...

Cool

Glad to see you again also Brian. And we're really happy to hear that you made it home safely and minus any more "performance awards"! Nobody needs them. Get that detector mounted!

We had 13 for dinner, wow. It was good to meet old friends and new ones as well. This wayward traveler really enjoyed the company.

Oh, and Ernie's mistress made it home safe and sound, though I do say we were up way too late talking bikes and planning future rides.

Well I made it home in fine shape. Rolled in about 11:15. Never got colder than 41 degrees so it was a great ride. Other than 1 coyote that crossed the road, no fauna problems. I had a great time and really enjoyed the group. Would do it again in a heart beat. Thanks to everyone for the welcome and the great hospitality...........Jim

It was good to see everyone again. Let's get together more often. Perhaps a trip to Eugene soon? Maybe someone could find a suitable venue down that way to entice the So. Oregon contengent to warm up their bikes? Another midway point for N/S for the Seattle group to meet Oregon and S/W Washington riders could be Lacey (MP 108). There is an Applebees and on the other side is a Pizza & Beer joint that was a welcome stop on one dark rainy trip home from Ride West. Let's kick it around.

Thanks Ken, for taking my "mistress" for her second ride of the year. John gets the honor of being her first conquest this year. I'm getting the fever to get some riding time with her, that's for sure...

Jim, it was great to meet you and look forward to talking a little more in the future. Glad that "Wiley Coyote" didn't cause you any probs!

Watch here for any future Tech Sessions if you want to share in the knowledge. You would certainly be welcome to join us for them as well. Who knows, we might even learn a thing or two from you.
