With apologies to our friends beyond the greater Portland/Vancouver area, and since we haven't had an RTE for a while, I have a suggestion for discussion. The Portland International Raceway hosts an NHRA drag races and Beaches Cruiser classic car show on Wednesday evenings. I heard from a neighbor that there are as many as 100 classic cars and many motorcycles are now showing up as well for the show. Albeit not the greatest, but there is food at the raceway. I realize for some the mid-week timing sucks, but might there be any interest for an RTE at the raceway?

Second suggestion: An RTE to Maryhill Museum along Hwy 14 beyond the Gorge. The museum is about 100 miles up the Columbia River and offers any number of routes to and from. There is a small deli with pretty good food in the basement and the exhibits are well done and varied. There are also picnic facilities. There is a large parking lot with shade trees and great views of the river. For those friends from the north (Brian and Clayton - maybe others), Dan and I would offer lodging the night before and they have several backdoor return rides home. No ownership here, but it's been a while since we've done an RTE and had a general gathering of friends. Any interest?

Re: Rte

Denny,

Sounds interesting and just so happens Today is my last day of school til next Tuesday. The only catch is Amy is leaving to see her mom on Thursday evening witch leaves me dog sitting. I could come down on Wednesday and come back on Thursday Afternoon. What time on Wednesday would we meet and where?

Re: Rte

Denny,

Those are two good ideas. I’m up for either one. What do you think folks? We could meet up at my place if that works.

Might be some confusion - the Portland International Raceway thing happens EVERY Wednesday. No intention of suggesting THIS Wednesday.

Ernie,

It looks like Friday has a 40% chance of showers and Saturday is going to be mostly cloudy. http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/sew/

Re: Rte

I have a suggestion for this Saturday. How about meeting at Grandma's Country Kitchen in Gearhart, OR. OK, it’s a GT checkpoint that I don’t have yet, but I hear they have dinner plate–size pancakes and design–your–own omelets at breakfast. They are located at 4030 Hwy. 101 N, 738-7098. Anybody interested?

Re: Rte

I ended up being called into work today (yeah, I know it was supposed to be my day off and my first day of vacation, but that is business). Sooooo nooooo riding today. Now we have tomorrow to ride and want to make it a good one. The coast is going to be cool in the am and possibly damp and east of the cascades dry and a little warmer. Still undecided...

Well if no one else has any ideas there is some great riding North of my area and we could loop over to Deception Pass and back down. If need I have one extra bed and plenty of floor space.

Re: Rte

Well, it sounds like a lot of folks are busy this holiday weekend and that’s understandable. Unless I hear differently, we’ll have to plan a RTE to the coast another time. Have a safe and fun 4th everyone.

I talked to Brian a few minutes ago. They are going to meet up at Brian's and ride over to SS BMW. When they meet up with John they will plan a ride from there. We are waiting to hear from them to see if we can meet somewhere for part of the ride and have lunch or dinner with them (perhaps Morton on SR12 or Randall. We are flexible for today after we get some errands run. I know you guys have my cell phone number so give us a call and we can launch a ride for at least part of the day.

We had a great time at the RTE in Morton. It was good to meet Nick and always good to be with John, Clayton and Brian. We had a fun ride home through your back yard (around Mt. St. Helens). We should have stopped by to see what you had on the grille!
