BMW of Western Oregon - Tigard

Thom and I stopped by the new BMW dealer in Tigard on Saturday, just to look in the windows and maybe hassle the setup staff. To our surprise they were open and welcomed us in. Now when I say open, I mean they had a few new bikes sitting on the floor, and were rapidly unpacking boxes and hanging up helmets, riding suits, and other accessories. There were also a couple of guys in the service area prepping new bikes. But the managers and sales staff were on hand to answer questions and give the tour.

They have a customer lounge area with some comfy couches and a TV (it was showing a K1200S on the Nürburgring ). There's also a public-use computer for checking email or road conditions, a small kitchen area with drinks and snacks available, and even a pool table so you can amuse yourself while your 12K service is being done.

It's gonna be a great facility, with lots of space and friendly folks. Sort of how a dealer ought to be. I'm looking forward to it, and to not having to drive out to the Airport anymore.

I'm a New Customer

I'll be dropping by tomorrow to check in my '02 for a radio replacement. I hope it will not take too long for them to get a new radio for her. I'm guessing she'll have to stay for the rest of the week. Just the same, I'm glad to have a new store so close by.

PM's parts pricing policy is one reason I don't go there anymore. Plus they tried to convince me that my brake pads needed replacing, when they had well over 60% of their life left (I had checked them myself the week before). No, thanks.

BMW riders in Portland are lucky to have BMWOR move in. The owners and staff of the Eugene BMWOR have made positive impact on the motorcycling community in the south Willamette valley and beyond. Likewise, it is logical to expect that the Tigard location will duplicate the performance of the their existing dealership.

Kind of a newbie with Portland MC, but I'm in the same boat with Ken. Just got my new gearshift lever (thanks for the loaner, John and I'll have it back to you soon) from Chicago BMW at $140 that was $175 at PM. By the time I spread the shipping costs (about $8) over some other parts it was a real deal worth waiting for the parts. I do like to support my local dealer, but was spoiled by my former one in Grand Junction, CO. I'm looking forward to being spoiled by the new Tigard dealership.

Comparing to Chicago BMW isn't really fair, as they offer parts at 20% below listed prices. A great deal if you're not in a hurry and you order a few things at the same time to save on shipping. I would often get the parts for the next two or three LT services sent all at once.

But PM would charge more than the listed prices for most of their stuff. If you needed it now, you sucked it up and paid.

BMWOR Celebration - Who's goin?

Anybody else need verification signatures on their MOA starting form? If so, are you going to the Tigard Grand Opening this weekend? Interested in getting together? Is there a DQ in the area?

Even though I have to ride clear from another state, I would be willing to do so. Anyone interested?

Dan

Got mine signed and sent this week. We are hopefully picking up our bike tomorrow from service. We got a new radio put in, but they are bringing up an antenna adapter from their Eugene store. The new radio is a CD and not a cassette. Imagine my disapointment at that news. I have never used the cassette anyway. We are looking forward to their Grand opening. We'll be there around 12 or so. DQ? Hmmm

The wait has never been a problem with Chicago BMW. My former dealer in Grand Junction offered a 10% discount to any member of our local club and they had many loyal consumers. I just know that PM's prices on some items I've tracked are near double what CBMW charged me. If I consolidate an order I can spread the shipping over several items and it's reasonable. Despite discounts from CBMW, from what I saw at Tigard today they will have most of my business.

DQ, DQ? I didn't know that anybody on this forum knew where a DQ was!

Uh, Denny, I'm pretty sure we spoke about the DQ addiction previously. You are not the only one buddy!

On a different note, did you guys get down to Tigard today? Art & I were sure we saw Michelle, but not yourself. Or were we imagining things? Also bumped into Thom, but Ken was not along. Something about getting re-aquainted with his wife I believe.

Tigard Grand Opening

Wow, quite a facility in Tigard. The weather was also great and I even got lunch to boot! John and I did a rather comical double take of each other as we pasted in heavy, brutal traffic. I got to chat with Denny and Michelle. I must report that I saw them numerous times caressing the GT's.

The event only had one small fly the the ointment. The demo truck didn't have some models including the GT. I felt sorry for the guy that had to explain over and over that there wasn't a GT. I thought they did an excellent job on the demo rides, however, especially given the area and traffic. I really enjoyed my ride on the K1200R. I was very surprized how stable it was and I really liked the long wheel base. It actually gave you the opportunity to give it throttle without the front end becoming immediately light. The power and handling was outstanding even on the modest ride. Slingshotting? No, I wouldn't do that......

Anyway, congratulations BMWOR! You are off to a good start!

Sorry we didn't connect with any of you. We got there a little later, although we did see Thom there. I may have been the back with Richard (one of the techs) looking over our LT. She is still torn apart waiting for an antenna adapter. I'm assured it will be in by Wednesday and we can pick her up. My garage is lonely without her.

The traffic was horrible in that locale. It took us 10 minutes to cross to the West side and 40 minutes of stop-n-go to get to the store! I commented that we could have been half way to Eugene by that time. Still, the store is classy and the people are great. I'm looking forward to developing a long term relationship that will result in a bike or two and many happy miles of riding.

I looked all over for "the gang" but only saw Dan a number of times on the new bike sales floor. Did you and Art go Saturday or Sunday? DQ withdrawal is just around the corner. I've been in SLC for a week and just back Friday night in time to head over to the new dealership in Tigard on Saturday. Tis a very nicely done dealership with obvious attention to client amenities and comfort. If their service and parts departments are as client friendly they've hit a home run in my book. I took the time to let both Steve and Madeline know we appreciated them coming to our neighborhood.

We were there Sat morning Denny. I thiong we were departing about the time a lot of folks were arriving. It really is a nice shop!

On the subject of DQ, I satisfied that need today on a short ride with Art. We found a nice little DQ on Hwy 18 after we crossed over the hill from Carlton to Sheridan, we decided to stop by the Casino and get rich. Did not happen!

Great day for a ride though!

Sorry that I missed you all on Saturday. We "had" to do a Breast Cancer Research charity ride that was raffled off a couple of months ago. Took the five female raffle winners for a "ride along" with the Brother Speed Motorcycle Club. A before and after Lunch ride just up the gorge with lunch at the Speed's clubhouse. Good time had by all. As it was a "Harley Only" ride, I borrowed one from a friend. What a vivid reminder of how technically superior the Beemers are in every way (especially brakes) to the Milwaukie product!
We went to the Open House today. Visited with lots of folks and took a demo ride on the 800ST as it was the only one that I had not already ridden. Nice bike and surprisingly comfortable and reasonable wind protection. Would be a great around town commuter bike and fun in the twisties. A fun day and a great facility that certainly promises to be an asset to us Portland Bemmerphiles. I understand that it cost the dealer $25K to have the Demo truck here for two days. WOW! Scott has made a huge investment and commitment. The dealership is less than five minutes from my house. That said, as soon as our house sells we will be moving to Vancouver and be about 5 minutes from PMC. Go figure...

I've been out of the country & just got to visit the showroom today - Great shop! I've enjoyed dealing with the Eugene group (over the phone), and am really glad to have a dealer that actually has (BMW rather than Sukaki's) on the floor. Farkles are still a bit sparse, but I'm sure that will change with support.
