2Far2CCR Rally 9/9/06

Well, since I'm not making it to CCR this year (as with many of us Left-Coasters) I figure we need to do something different. So Ernie and I have come up with an idea.

Welcome to the 2Far2CCR Rally. It will be based on standard Endurance Rally rules, but set up on a 6-hour format. There will be points awarded for reaching various bonus locations and answering related questions, as well as a few other surprises to keep things interesting. Think scavenger hunt on two wheels. Riders can be solo, or two up. Just bring a good map of Oregon & Washington, a full tank of gas, and be ready to explore.

There will be a brief rider's meeting at 10 a.m., after which the bonus location packets will be handed out. Riders will then plan their routes to make the most points in the time allotted. Rally start time will be at 11 a.m. sharp, with all riders due back by 5 p.m. Late riders will incur penalties, so plan carefully and ride well.

Afterwards there will be BBQ & socializing, and maybe even a few awards to be handed out. Directions to Ernie & Pauline's in Milwaukie, OR will follow.

So if you've always wanted to try a motorcycle rally but don't want to commit to 12, 24, or more hours in the saddle, this is your chance. Come and ride with us in our friendly little competition.

Note that Ernie won't be privy to any of the bonus locations, so the he and Pauline can ride the rally as well. He will be in charge of the BBQ grill afterwards though.

If you have any questions, then fire away. If you're up for our unique challenge, then add you name to the list below. See y'all there.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Cool

Sounds like a great adventure. I'm commited to crewing for my son who is running in his third Wasatch 100 Mile Endurance Run that day near SLC (I keep telling him that's what one has a throttle for!!). Sorry to miss the outing.

Dam I wish I could be there. I have to leave the next day for a week of training and I don't think there's a kitchen pass in the works for that weekend. You guys have fun and ride safe.

Talking Since the Solstice is done....

Keep posting details and I will see if this is a possibility. If I can get the bike running smoothly again, this could be fun. Is Milwaukee near Portland or Salem?

Milwaukie is near Portland.

I know not everyone can make a specific date, but we figured we'd toss out something that works for Ernie and I and go from there. If this goes well. we may have to plan a similar ride for later. Hopefully, we can plan ahead a bit earlier and thus give folks more warning.

John? Art? Brian? You guys out there?

Gene,

We're having a tech session next weekend here at my place. Perhaps we can look at your LT? Milwaukie is on the south side of Portland.

Directions to my house will be out later in the week.

I'm out here lurking.... I want to go to Ernie's for the tech session and the poker run sounds really good. I have asked the boss for three weeks off without pay starting first week of sept. (I used all my vacation up.) He told me he would let me know on monday. If I get it I will be going the long way to the northeast coast. And of course, The long way home. Some of the places on my list, Black hills,Spearfish canyon,Sturgess,MT Rushmore,That big alien rock, Beartooth pass,LOLO pass,Nice routes thru Colorado, UP of Michigan, Visit friends and family in Pennsylvania and Long Island and maybe New Mexico and utah if time allows.

Wow! How about Hyder AK while you're at it. I'll never catch your annual mileage if you keep doing those long rides.

Come on, Ernie, I can barely keep up with yours. I managed to pass 85K this weekend, slipping clutch and all. Two more GT checkpoints down, and 5 to go.

Brian -

If you need any suggestions for good rides in Colorado and Utah PM me. My old stomping grounds. Sounds like a great romp on the bike.

I got my tires we talked about and really need the rear.

I concede defeat! I got'cha on overall mileage though... I hope you will be able to post some of your adventures. I'm guessing our trip around the Cascade loop will have to wait. Unless that is if the weather is still good in October. Have a great ride.

Ken,

Sound fun - BUT - We will be working the Northwest Passage rally that starts that weekend/week. This must meen that you decided not to do that rally. If the dates change - we will try to fit it in.

The Cascade loop is still possible in October If we watch the weather real close. I really wanted to do the Northwest Passage rally, But it looks like I may have to pass for the better good. Although My route has not been finalized yet.... To much to see and not enough time.

I am riding the NWPR this year. It says check in is Sat or Sun, but the 9th is the only day I could do our little ride. So I'll be heading over Sunday morning. See you there.

Neat! We will be in Boise Thursday - Saturday then head over to Newport for the starting banquet Sunday night and the Monday morning start. Then onto Sunnyside, Gerlach and back to Newport to help out. Glad to hear that you will be a participant. I think that you will enjoy it! Good luck.

Unhappy Really, There's a Rally

Ken,

I am surprised that there isn't more people signed up by now. This really sounds great, but it would be a lot of work for you and Ernie for just a few people. Are there other dates that could be suggested that work better for those we haven't heard from?

Just a thought...

Me, too. But it usually takes a bit of arm-twisting to get the PNW folks's attention.

So, if anyone wants to participate, let us know. If not, then let us know why.

How about this for an excuse for not being able to participate - Elaine and I will be in prison.

Actually we will be doing a bike show inside prison walls in Boise.

I am not sure

Hey there;
I am not sure if my wife and I can make it. We have to wait to see if she has time off from the dog pound (Dog grooming). Sounds like a blast, we'll see in a week if we can make it.

Well...

My wife is grabbing me by the ears and saying ..GO MAN GO! Hey at least she is keeping it above the belt! Seriouslythough....
If it is still on please let us know, and some fun roads DOWN to the location or address. Also any suggestions for a hotel around there ? We plan on checking out more the one day of riding.
Thanks

Actually, work has exploded (as usual). Sorry for the delayed reply.

The formal ride is out, but we would be glad to meet up for a ride, lunch, dinner, whatever.

We will reschedule the mini-rally for the spring which should give us more time to plan ahead and find a date that works for everyone.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

*sigh

Once the stone
You're crawling under
Is lifted off your shoulders
Once the cloud that's raining
Over your head disappears
The noise that you'll hear

Is the crashing down of Hollow Years

+1 for the Dream Theater quote, but it ain't like that. Some times you gotta work hard so that you can play just as hard. It's all about timing, and balancing the current opportunities with future plans. But I appreciate the concern.

For the record, we'll reschedule the local rally for spring, when I have more time to research bonus sites, and more people can plan ahead to attend.
