I'm not superstitious, but I ride every New Year's Day to ensure good riding throughout the year!

Re: My first scheduled ride for 2012

This is truly disgusting.

I'll be riding back "the long way" from Esplendor Resort in southern Arizona - after playing golf in 75F weather for two days. I'm taking the LT, Mom and the dog - and oh yeah - my clubs fit neatly into my home built trailer. We've got a suite reserved and a couple of bottles of Costco (whooda thunk?) French champagne already in the cooler.

The valets at hotels don't know quite what to do when I pull up, flip them the keys and ask them to park it in a shady spot. They REALLY freak out when the dog jumps down off the tank and starts running around like he owns the place.

BMW Luxury Touring, no? Y'all are invited for 2013...

Re: My first scheduled ride for 2012

The hubby and I rode yesterday (1/1/12) for a couple of hours with the average temp around 50 degrees, with very little salt on the roads. When we got home there was a rainbow in our back yard ( an awesome omen if you ask me). Should we be saying this was our last ride of the season, or the first of the year? Anyway, today we woke up to weather in the upper 20's and a couple of inches of snow in the yard. Ah, life in the Finger Lakes of New York.

Re: My first scheduled ride for 2012

Well the weather was so nice both Saturday and Sunday my honey and I rode the last day of 2011 and the first day of 2012. We had a great News Years day brunch and my honey found a few dollar bills on the ground so a lucky start to the New year. I wish all safe riding in the New Year.

Rushville, New York, eh? Greetings from Rushville, Ohio!

Similar results here: 53 yesterday for a New Year's Day ride, then woke up to 20-something degrees and a dusting of snow. It's been snowing all day. The older I get the less I like winter.

Re: My first scheduled ride for 2012

Howard, how's the riding in your Rushville? We are really not that far and it would be interesting to ride in another Rushville area Our Rushville is nestled in the Finger Lakes right in the middle of Canandaigua Lake looking at a map. We have Bristol Mountain across the lake from us and there are a lot of hills, twists and turns and a favorite area to ride for both motorcyclists and bicyclists. It's hard for us to find good places to ride in our area as everyone comes here for the ride and the scenery. We are not able to ride overnights at this point due to no one to babysit the fur babies (cat is 19 years old and dog is 11). We do go down to Pennsylvania a lot. the Crippled Bear in Hepurnsville (near Williamsport) is a great place for lunch and biker friendly. We also like the Allegany Mountains on the west side of Pennsylvania.

Re: My first scheduled ride for 2012

Our Rushville is 10 minutes or so from the Hocking Hills (southeast Ohio), an area where you just can't go wrong anywhere you ride. All kinds of curves and hills. Very popular with bikers. You'll have to check it out some time.

We will definately have to plan a trip that way. I googled it and it is only about 9 hours away.

Re: My first scheduled ride for 2012

This can't be January, this weekend it is supposed to be 55 degrees again.
I guess I should stop putting the bike away until winter really arrives. I could deal with 55 degrees every weekend all winter long. I guess it really is a sign I'm getting old because a warm locale is looking better and better. Actually I'm close to retirement and would be open to suggestions as where to retire to. My only requirements are you can ride all year long but are no more than two to three hours to from ski resort.

Re: My first scheduled ride for 2012

went for a 2 1/2 hr ride on new years eve and a 45 min. ride on the 4th. Temps in the upper 40's, very unusual for winter in Iowa
