Anyone going to MOA?

This may have been posted before but I didn't see it (in a quick search). Anyone from the N.E. going to Johnson City? Any BBD's?

Re: Anyone going to MOA?

Still haven't decided, though I'm leaning towards no.

If we DO end up going, I'll post here.

Re: Anyone going to MOA?

I am a BBD of former years and will also be going to Johnson City. I am heading down to VA to my sons house on either the 14th or 15th depending on weather. We are planning on leaving from his house on the 16th for a leisure ride to the MOA site. Staying at a Super8 in Erwin TN.

Re: Anyone going to MOA?

I'll be leaving on the 11th and stoping in VA to camp, if the weather is nice, and continue to SC for a couple of day to see friends. I'm going to tent at the fair grounds and leave on 18th to make it home for work on Monday.

Re: Anyone going to MOA?

OK, I think we're going (still haven't decided 100%, though - work!)

Anyway, wer're looking at leaving Monday July 13, for a hard ride to the DC area (maybe take in one or two of the Smithsonian museums). Then a two day leisurely ride through Skyline Drive (in the Shenandoah National Park in VA) and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Any ideas on a good place to stay on the BRP in the Roanoke - south area?

Re: Anyone going to MOA?

Are we planning to meet at the MOA? This is my first time going to this event and have no idea of how busy it is. I know my SO wants to take some of the seminars they will have. Is there someone that knows the set up of the grounds that can suggest maybe a get together for riding or for dinner? Sound like we all are living at different times and have different agendas, but if anyone can organize a get together would be fun.

Re: Anyone going to MOA?

We'd love to meet up with everybody!

Maybe we can get together and go for a ride. I'd love to take a day trip to ride the Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway.

Re: Anyone going to MOA?

If you're going to ride the Cherohala Skyway and the Tail of Dragon, plan on doing it before Saturday or Sunday and I would suggest Thursday would be the best. The crowd starts coming in on Friday. And Saturday and Sundays are loaded with lots of bikes and the state troopers are out in force.

If you beat foot on the Interstate from Gray to Knoxville and then drop down to Maryville and on to the Dragon and Cherohala, you've got a 369 mile ride in front of you. If you take the back roads to get down there and back you might have a shorter distance to ride but the time differential to get there will be greater. Trying to push the speed on the back roads will get you a visit with the locals, the county and the state.

With that said, "Come on down boys and have a good time."

Believe me the thought has crossed my mind. Over the last month I have been to every bike dealer in the Charlotte area looking at whats out there. I know the owner of one of the 4 HD dealers we have within a one hour drive from my house. He told me to stop by & see what we got & also said I probably wouldn't like a HD.

I didn't let the sales lady know I knew her boss & was looking at the road king because thats the only model that the faring doesn't move when she asked me what I ride. I told her a BMW K1200Lt & she said theres only one bike a Harley. I wanted to say F.Y.B. The more I looked at them up close the more I didn't like them.

Pastor Jack has offered several times to let me ride his GT & I may take him up someday. I just don't like putting many miles on someone else bike. I would need to ride at least 3 tanks stopping only for fuel to see if I like it as well as the LT.

Hope to see you sat.

I'll be at MOA and at RA, but from this list I still have not seen a concrete plan for a meet up. Perhaps we should meet at the gondola... Oh wait that was 9 years ago! Saturday would be best for us.

Well TXchic is not coming with me. She has an appointment Wednesday 15th work related and wont be able to come with me. So I am going solo I might take off Sunday or Monday and try to make it by Wednesday. Are we still on for Thursday morning at the bear gardens for a ride and for Saturday ride with the rest of the group?

Too bad for TXChick, my wife was looking forward to talking "chick stuff" with her! Anyway, we're planning on leaving RI very early Monday morning heading to the DC area (all slab). Then a 2 day leisurely ride via Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. You're welcome to ride along with us, part of the way or all the way, if you want some company!

We're still up for a ride on Thursday to the dragon!

I will also be going solo. I am planning on leaving either Saturday or Sunday and making my way to JC by way of Memphis from Derry, NH. Plan on using as many back roads as I can, only using the slabs when necessary. PM if you want to meet and ride together.

That's Thursday NIGHT. I am on 8-closing...

Re: Anyone going to MOA?

Not looking good. Not only doesn't the dealer not have any idea whats wrong with my bike BMW Corp. has been no help so far either. It is now going on five weeks at the dealer & they all are stumped. They can't submit a claim until they know whats wrong. I will probably have to just go get it next week & fix it myself.
